WQWK to return to the air?

So there was an add in the paper today about rock format on 105.9 -- which was Joe FM's country/rock station.

At the same time, Forever has taken down the WQWK webpage ...

Could magnum have bought the call signs? Could rock be returning to the SC market?

Guess we find out today at 5 p.m.

I read on the facebook that Troy Craig is going to a rock station on 105.9 today at 5pm. I guess that's better than trying to compete with a bunch of other country stations, but I still think that there were better holes to fill.

Assuming Forever doesn't have "Quickrock" trademarked or servicemarked, they don't need the WQWK call letters. One would guess, though, that they'll change the calls to some approximation of "Quick"--QCK, QKK... whatever.

When you consider 105.9's FM repeater in downtown SC, smack in the middle of the frats and two blocks from Old Main, rock would appear to be the most logical option. And with 106.9's signal in Lock Haven they've got the only real rocker in two college towns.

Should be able to sell some spots.

Let's hope they can sell some spots. Since Magnum can't pay their bills now and Joe FM was never going to beat out or outsell the frogs, they could use the money and the audience.

The first thing they should do is kill the booster, or lower it's ERP in downtown SC. It makes the 105.9 signal noisy and hardly listenable at a 10+ mile radius of it's location. They need to turn up the modulation on 106.9 in Renovo. It's practically half the level of the 105.9 signal. And clean up the dreadful audio processing on both!

I do want to thank them for dumping the horrible hybrid format, though! Anything is better than Rockin' Country...

What they should kill is the Led Zep and Jimi Hendrix and anything recorded before 1977. Or maybe 1980.

Keeping those boosters synchronized to the Mother Ship is a bear. When they're not, you get all that multipath crap. On the other hand, as long as that 100-watt SOB booms into Beaver Canyon, that's all that matters. Ain't nobody in Rebersburg gonna be listening anyway.

Funny thing is how 4ever had it figured that all the rock listeners would automatically move over to 93.7, like it or not. The best laid plans...

Three Cheers for Qwik Rock, a little less angry than the previous iteration, but a fine sound and Drew and Todd, Mike Ford, Troy and AJ have their collective act together. Throw your iPod away and listen to some pros.
