WQXE

just curious...
how many different frequencies has WQXE in Elizabethtown been on?

I can think of 106.3, 100.1, and 98.3...but I'm thinking there may have been more.

Are they still hot AC? They've got to be one of the longest running hot AC's in America.

They were hot AC before anyone ever heard of hot AC.

I guess it's considered hot a/c but it's a pretty odd mix...

When I heard them in the '90s, I didn't think they were that odd. Small markets like Elizabethtown usually had an odder mix than WQXE did.

WFMG in Richmond, Indiana, in the late '80s/early '90s really was an odd mix. WFMG was more of an AC/top 40 hybrid and didn't really have the more limited playlist that hot AC's usually have. (Back then, WFMG played some new non-AC music but would also throw in songs I hadn't heard in years.) WQXE sounded slicker and not as broad.

They will play stuff the max won't touch like they play shadow of the day and play island in the sun by weezer and tori amos fairytale and then throw in some 70s tune and then some of there liners like"the station most boomers listen to" they are a good station i think. I can do with out the 70s though.

I've heard them play Alicia Key's "No One" which isn't considered Hot AC. I've also heard them play the new Newsboys song.

I guess they aren't bound by consultants.I have also heard personal jesus. They do think outside the box now whether you like there box is up to you.

The first time I heard them, which was pretty much from the start, they were Top 40. I don't remember what frequency they were when I heard them, because I was usually listening to WAKY or WKLO as a kid. But when I first started working there in '79 they had switched to an automated beautiful music format. Then, we started interspersing 60's/70's soft pop records with the reels. It was my feeling they were crawling back to their original format. Before too long we were playing all records (yes, RECORDS) that were an oldies/soft pop mix. I remember playing Tony Orlando and following it with "I Never Cry" by Alice Cooper. It really was a decent mix. After I left the second time I would come back into town (military) and find them getting more and more into the Top 40. When I went back for what turned out to be an abbreviated stay in 1997 they had switched to 98.5, only to go to 98.3 shortly afterwards. They're pretty much the powerhouse station in E'town, although I don't care for the format (guess I'm getting old).

If QXE advertised in Louisville would they show up in the ratings? I've noticed WULF in our ratings before w/o advertising.

I saw a billboard for 98.3 QXE just south of the Gene Snyder the other night, but north of Sheperdsville, and Pioneer Village exit. WQXE has a good signal in South Louisville, but not great in Downtown or the east end, and not much into Indiana at all, so I would say plenty of people in the South End listen to them when they want something different from THE MAX.
