WQXQ (101.9) Central City: Wasted Frequency??

I have to admit, they do sound good now! My hat's off to them for making the necessary changes. I look forward to what's around the corner with them. I think the playing field is wide open frankly.

How was that your point? Granted they do have a website compared to the cyber one sheet they had before, but it takes more than that and pushing TuneIn for success. As far as the new processor, Robert Orban could personally deliver the latest greatest Optimod and the audio will still sound the same because that is the nature of airing bad mp3's.

Whatever you do on the playing field there has to be revenue as to afford the ball. Cromwell successfully bottomed out Owensboro radio revenue last year with their 'dollar a holler" rate and any attempt of radio beyond automation requires more than a dollar a spot. As far as the TSA world beyond Owensboro, it will be a challenge.
 
From what I have heard, they are using an Orban 2200 processor. It's about the same as the old Optimod 8100, 2 bands. They won't get much out of it.
 
Not Orban, wheatstone. boy, radiorob is a tough crowd. I guess what I'm was saying overall...is they have improved. They have sucked so long, this is prob baby steps for them (whoever they are).

If you are just a casual radio listener, as you seem to indicate, then how do you know what kind of processing they are using?
 
Doesn't matter what processor is used when the music is SO far out there, it doesn't make sense. Weak signal, unfamiliar music, and a morning show that sounds more like an aircheck archive of STO from the 80's. Now THERE is a formula for ratings success!!!
 
You think they will ever run at full power again? Back in the day they put a strong signal over Brownsville even. Now you can't even pick them up there. I wonder how much power they are acually pushing on 101.9, can't be very much.
 
With the exception of co and adjacent noise / interference, power in FM is not as important as tower location and height (except in cities with a lot of steel and concrete). I forget the formula but signal (power) loss on FM is around 3 DB (50%) per so many kilometers. Simply stated I would rather have 25 KW at 1000 feet verses 100 KW at 500 feet on the same tower.
