WQXQ abrupt format change

Was listening to Q 102 a little before 10 this morning. Brian Jackson did his farewell, and promoted the jocks and the new Melissa Etheridge show. They went into the commercial break, and in the middle of the spot, it flipped and went to a Taylor Swift song, then another song, and then sequed with no ID into a FOX Sports radio report, and lo and behold they went into the final hour of the Dan Patrick show.

Probably one of the most bizarre format changes I've ever witnessed. I really liked Q 102. I thought they were coming along and improving. I liked their community focus and their localism. As much as I like sports talk, this new format is a step downward. I'm sad to see a good station go up in smoke.

Programming up to that point was an agreement with the license holder Starlight Broadcasting originating in Owensboro and sent to Central City. If the license holder did this without cause then the litigation will fly. However, if the program provider failed to fulfill their part of the contract then Starlight had the right to literally pull the plug.

That's what I thought might happen. I met the station manager/program director over the summer. He told me about the set-up. It also sounded like he had a multi-year deal with Starlight. I thought the station's sound had improved in the past year. They were trying to be a local Owensboro/Western Kentucky radio station.
While I like sports talk, I still prefer 102.7. I just can't get into the FOX sports hosts.

I wonder if anyone else will try a Hot AC/CHR aimed at Owensboro now that the Q is gone. I know 103.3 in Santa Claus flipped to HOT AC yesterday. BUt they are more of a north of the river station.
