WQXR-HD2 drops New Sounds for New Standards

I just noticed that on December 17th, 2024, WQXR-HD2 over at 105.9 was suddenly carrying WNYC's New Standards with Paul Cavalconte instead of New Sounds with host John Schaefer, which had been the content of the HD2 subchannel for a good while. Visits to both station's websites revealed no information as to this abrupt and unannounced change. I happen to like both programming formats, but I particularly favor the largely ambient New Sounds wafting in the background during the late overnight. Both have streaming feeds readily available on the station's app or TuneIn, but I especially glorify pulling in an OTA signal.

If you're a member/supporter of WQXR you should definitely contact them to let them know you're not happy about the change. To be honest, you're probably one of the few listeners to the OTA HD2 regardless of what's being programmed on it.

One person complaining isn't going to cause an HD2 station in NYC to change their programming, when what they used to program is still available streaming. You're going to be wasting your time.

New Sounds is still streaming and so is New Standards so, ehh...

Actually, you’re not only going to be wasting your time, but also the time of the person at the station reading your email, who has no reason to change the format back unless it gets worse ratings in the future. And one person not listening isn’t going to tank the ratings. Also I’m just curious and not making fun, why do you dress like Frank Sinatra?

None of my business, but I like his Sinatra look.
