A simulcast doesn't make much sense to me, other than the fact the AM side can be run with a minimum of warm bodies and no programming cost. Unless:

1: It's a ruse to keep Clear Channel guessing, and another talk format will appear.

2: It's in preparation for the sale of 1010.

3: It's a placeholder for a future change.

3: It's for the sole benefit of that one poor soul who only has an AM radio (rumor has it he fills out his diary faithfully....)

BTW..have the WQYK AM calls been applied for?

Remember that WBZZ was mysteriously dubbed "Talk" by Joel Hollander when the Stern affiliate changes were announced (with the FreeFM announcement) earlier this year. My guess: it's a temporary holding pattern until a new talk format debuts. Maybe progressive talk, with negotations not yet fully worked out? CBS Radio wouldn't want to tip anyone off to what is coming...

According to the St. Petersburg Times, yes. I don't believe you can confirm that information online.

Yes those request is available online on the FCC website Click on the Under Bureaus and Offices on the right side of the homepage...On the media bureau page click on Audio Division,including radio on the left side of the page. On the audio division page scroll down to almost the end and click on "Call Sign Reservations & Authorizations...Here is the one for WQYK-AM
