WRAS 88.5 and WCLK 91.9 Still off the air from Storms

I noticed WRAS 88.5 (Georgia State University) and WCLK 91.9 (Clark Atlanta Univ) stations are still off the air.

The WRAS stick is SE of the city, but maybe their GSU campus studios lost power?

Isn't WFRG 89.3 on the same stick as WCLK? 89.3 is on the air.

90.1 WABE was off earlier today as well, but they've are back on.

Both 91.9 and 89.3 were on the 1340 tower at the Clarke Atlanta tennis courts. A few months ago, 89.3 moved to the Richland site.

There's probably been an outage from the storm at the 91.9 and 88.5 studios.

What do they use for a transmitter link? If it's telco, the lines may be down. If it's a microwave link, that tower might be down.

How will this affect Q100?

Are we still doing that? I haven't really seen it since the flip. If we aren't can we have a funeral for the longest running joke on this board?

This from the WRAS website:

WRAS Atlanta Temporarily Off the Air

Due to the damage on the Georgia State campus from the tornado, WRAS Atlanta will temporarily be off the air until further notice. Some of the buildings at Georgia State are currently without power and with more storms on the way there could be more complications. It is likely that we will not be back on the air until 6am Monday morning. We apologize for the inconvenience. Be sure to check the website for future updates.

There's nothing on the WCLK website. Their webstream is also down.

The last word from our Grand Poobah, Jeff Walker, was we'll POSSIBLY be back on air between 4 and 6pm.
Tom is on vacation.

No damage was done to our building, but our T1 line runs through a building that had some damage. If I weren't at Dave I'd check a radio to see if they were broadcasting.

And now....first thing after getting back from dragging around 5 screaming kids in DisneyWorld(which was freakin' crowded) the WRAS main transmitter is coughing up blood.
I've been here 13 years.....first time we have had to run the RCA 5000 watt backup longer than a few hours. It will be (hopefully) playing all night tonight and part of tomorrow. This is the first transmitter WRAS used - bought in 1970.
38 Years old isn't ancient, by transmitter standards, but the ol' girl does feel her age sometimes.
Hope we don't have a RCA "roast" tonight!!

Good luck! Hey, at least y'all have a working backup other than an exciter. The new Harris HT/HD+ 25kW is at WREK and is being installed this week. Then our BE FM-10A will become a backup. We used to have a huge ancient RCA (originally from WBIE-FM!), but that never worked.

Be thankful that you have a backup with substantial power. I had an RCA BTF10A that I would trust with my life if my main Harris FM25K decided to take a vacation. Normal TPO with the Harris was 17kW, there was no noticable difference with coverage on the RCA just 7kW down. Having a back up like that sure takes the pressure off if something happens.

So Tech/WREK will have HD up in a few days? Any decision about the HD2/HD3 services?

Yep... HD for the main channel will be up within days. We will begin testing an HD2 stream soon, but the official launch won't be until fall. It looks like I'll be configuring a second automation scheduler with the usual WREK show formats being 12 hour time-shifted. HD2 will also carry specialty show programming when bumped from the main channel because of sports. The staff is looking toward converting an adjacent office into a third studio to assist in this.

Oh good grief....it's a freakin' Harris! :'(
Be prepared to replace it in 10 years when Harris stops supporting it.

The tower is 600 feet tall but it is only 400 feet above average terrain.
The secret is our multiangular quadrature phased dual polarized coat hanger antenna designed by famed Puerto Rican RF engineer Julio del Calibre. Coat hangers, stacked and phased properly, make terrific RF radiators.

But one of our alums is VP at Harris, and we got a really good deal.
