WRBJ 34

They've been advertising on the radio, but I don't see anything on channel 34. Is it on the air? or just cable? It may be hard to pick up where I am because it will be on the back of my antenna. I would make sure I'm actually broadcasting before advertising on the radio. That confuses people.

Seems to me that WRBJ is sending a direct satellite signal into Time Warner Cable in Jackson. I haven't seen an on-air signal yet. The tower is supposed to be in Smith County and the programming is coming out of Roberts Broadcasting in St. Louis. All that is here in Mississippi will be the tower and a sales staff.

So, I not crazy then. I heard a commercial on Y101 a couple of days ago. My cousin is able to see it since he gets cable from Time Warner. The only thing I could pick up on 34 was a bleed-over signal from Fox 35. I thought that since the tower is in Smith County, that I was a little too far away from getting the signal. I wonder when the tower will be up.

According to <a target="_blank" href=http://www.targetmarketnews.com/storyid01050603.htm>this article</a>, negotiations are taking place to get it on SusCom in Rankin County.<P ID="signature">______________

I doubt many people will watch it over the air anyway, except for us few folks that are too cheap to get cable. Many times I've seen peoples TV's only pick up 3 and 12 because they either don't have the antenna connected properly or the channels are being skipped because they have it set for "cable" instead of "air" on their onscreen menu. Thats been a problem since day one for UHF. Some people just can't figure it out. Remember when they had seperate knobs, and you had to put your VHF tuner on "U" and then turn the UHF knob? That used to drive my grandmother crazy if we tuned her TV to channel 29. She could never figure out how to get it back on 16. Didn't matter much, all she and most of the old folks ever watched (and still watch) is channel 12. Maybe its because they had Lawrence Welk and Bob Barker.

I emailed the corporate offices of Roberts Broadcasting, which owns the station. They replied on the 11th, stating that they were in the middle of "final technical operations". No timetable was given, but I interpreted that it would probably be a couple of weeks.

By sending their signal via satellite from St. Louis, they are able to send the signal to any provider. They will be able to provide the signal to cable companies, even to the western most part of the Jackson market.

I just wish that Dish Network and DirecTV could have done the same thing as TimeWarner. The operations director stated that once final technical operations are complete, both providers should make it available to customers within 30 days.

I do agree about the advertising though. You don't want to confuse people.

> Actually, it's not suprising that tv people don't understand advertising, especially on the radio. My experience with local tv folks gives the opinion that the people doing the marketing don't have a clue. You'd think they'd know more about the marketing business. TV execs seem to think radio is inferior to tv, and give the responsibility on ad decisions to lower level administrative types that don't have the time for research or planning, or dump it off to an ad agency that has its own agenda(billing the client).

Hey There
I did the same thing you did with the TV in the car thing and all i got was wb 40, but no 34. I have a website on the station incase you don't know about it. It's the FCC website of the station and the station is not on air yet. But here's the site.
http://www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/tvq?call=WRBJ or www.tvradioworld.com
I live in Hattiesburg and we don't have UPN here, only on fox 25 out of gulfport at 10:30 at night they show upn shows. But I can sometimes get wb40 in pretty good and i'm not in there coverage area.
O well, hope i can get this station in at night sometimes....
LATER!

Hey There

I just read something online at this website below about a guy asking about the new upn station and it was posted Monday January 23. Says the station will be on the air by the end of this week.

You should be able to get a somewhat cloudy picture during the day. I am not in the coverage area of WUFX - 35, but I can pick it up from my rooftop antenna. The coverage comes quite close to H'burg from what I can tell. Perhaps cable will pick them up.

Please pray for the unfortunate folks that invested in this station as it will soon lose it's affiliation due to the WB/UPN merger. WB40 will surely get it.
