Today, WRBJ-FM dropped the "Hot 97-7" moniker and are now calling themselves "97-7 WRBJ". They still retain the urban format, but no longer focuses heavily on hip-hop and has tilted much more towards the R&B side. Think of WJMI in their pre-99 Jams and that is similar to what you hear now. Also gone is Russ Parr's morning show, which has been replaced with comedian Rickey Smiley's morning show.
You may recall after the Don Imus flap last year, Roberts Broadcasting began to make strides towards cleaning up offensive material from their TV and radio stations. I'm not sure what to make of this move. They're playing the best of both worlds by moving more towards WKXI-FM, but without completely blowing off those who also listen to WJMI. This is sorta what Hot 107.7 in Birmingham is doing by flanking both 98.7 Kiss FM and 95.7 Jams.
This summer in Jackson won't be so "Hot" after all.
