WRBJ-TV 34 sold to Trinity Broadcasting

I would think that WUFX 35 would pick up CW. They could put one of them on a subchannel. The beef I had with 34 is that they refused to broadcast in HD even though the transmitter is sending out an HD signal. all network programming is in letterbox format or windowboxed on widescreen sets.
WUFX also refuses to broadcast in HD. The are only sending out an SD 480i signal. 34 and 35 are the last full power stations to refuse to broadcast any HD content.
Even though I don't expect to see any HD on WUFX (since they have had years to convert, and have made no effort to do so) It would be nice to see CW on a closer station. 34 is a rimshot signal and requires OTA viewers to turn their antenna if they are north of the Magee area.
I wonder if they will add all 4 of the TBN subchannels?

I bet that the transmitter will get a little bit of work done on it. Most TBN stations have at least 4-5 subchannels to go along with the main TBN channel. Presently Channel 34 has only one channel and no subchannels. And Jackson may get it's first full power Spanish language station on one of it's subchannels since Enlace may be one of the subchannels. Unless TBN decides to move the transmitter from Smith County this also applies to Laurel-Hattiesburg and Meridian.

You might watch for WJTV to dump 24 hr weather to carry the CW just like WTOK and WCBI. Since WJTV is CBS and CBS also is part owner to the CW network and there is not an CW affiliate now in Laurel-Hattiesburg with TBN picking up WRBJ, WHLT could pick up CW and be CBS as well.

Laurel-Hattiesburg has had a WB/CW for years on cable only channel 59. But in the last month or so, the new FOX 23 in Hattiesburg has picked up the cw on it's sub-channel 23.2. You can read about it at this link below.

I've always thought WRBJ should have bought or LMA'd a low power station such as WXMS for people in Jackson. WRBJ is nearly impossible for some viewers unless you climb on the roof and turn the antenna. What about WRBJ radio station?

Off topic, but what is the status of WWJX channel 23 in Jackson. Originally that was supposed to be full power 1 million watts on channel 51, but signed on at temp power of only 20kw because the cp was about to expire. since then it was kicked off of channel 51 due to cell phones and moved to channel 23 still at low power. it has mostly religon but I've seen some local sports and real estate ads. The FCC no longer has a listing for a power increase for the station the last time I checked. Has going full power been abandoned in favor of remaining a low power station? If it ever went full power it would have a good signal and would make a good place for CW. But it looks like it ain't going to happen. Any idea on this station?

We may have just discovered the sale of WRBJ-TV but the sale of broadcast properties by Roberts Broadcasting has been in the works since 2011. The parent company, Roberts Broadcasting, filed Bankruptcy in 2011 in St Louis, MO due to non-payment of syndication fees and other liabilities. Both Warner Bros, CBS, King World and others filed suit and received judgements against WRBJ-TV's parent Company, Roberts Broadcasting. This is probably the first of many TV stations owned by Roberts Broadcasting on the selling block. According to the contract for sale, WRBJ-DT sale price is 1.5 million dollars. The application was filed on October 23, 2012. Unless TBN gets an LMA, expect CW to be on channel 34 for sometime. The sale is subject to the Bankruptcy Court in St. Louis, and the FCC

Temporarily WRBJ-TV will affiliate with TBN until the sale of the station is completed and the Bankruptcy Court gives it's approval. Don't be surprised that any subchannels will not be available until the consummation of the sale.

My latest Comcast bill contained the following news:

"Effective 1/22/2013, TBN channel 242, will no longer be available. WRBJ is your TBN affiliate."

I guess that will be the date the sale of WRBJ to TBN takes effect and the date the CW network leaves Jackson.

A shame. But surely another local station will pick up the CW affiliation, if anything as a secondary affiliation. In 2000, WXMS Channel 27 was Jackson's New WB affiliation. WXMS was signed on by the then owners of Fox40 WDBD. WXMS also had UPN as a secondary affiliate, even though Jackson had a UPN affiliate, WBMS Channel 10. WBMS UPN 10 was owned by a local man, Gene Blaylock, very nice guy. The primetime lineup went...WB Network 7PM - 9PM and UPN Network 9PM - 11PM. It would be nice to see WXMS pick up the CW affiliation, since CW is a result of a WB and UPN merger.

I had been following the possible sale of WRBJ for months, hoping maybe a company like Sinclair might snatch it up a good price. Nope. In comes TBN. Honestly, WRBJ offered little (Law and Order CW and America's Funniest Home Videos) that I really likes plus they did offer movies on the weekend. I am not a fan of the court shows or the talk shows that run rampart in the Jackson and national markets.
But even earlier in the year, WDBD Fox 40 is sold along with WXMS Ch. 35 and Ch. 10 to ((I forget) and Raycom's WLBT Ch. 3 news department takes over 40's news department. Anyway, Laura Britt(who I really liked) is gone! And I am not happy seeing members of the Ch. 3 crew (who i quit watching) now on the air at WDBD. So Ch. 34 will be just a memory for me when TBN takes over. Poor Jackson.

since WUFX 35 and WAPT 16 have no subchannels. that would be be a good place for CW. That way I could actually watch it. reception of channel 34 is hit and miss due to their transmitter location. plus, they always broadcast a dark murky "windowboxed" picture with no HD for cw programming. mostly unwatchable in prime time. If WWJX 23 would ever go to full power like they were originally supposed to, that would be the perfect place for it. but I'm not sure what the status of 23 is. Since leaving channel 51, the construction permit for full power seems to have disappeared from the FCC website.
