WRBP Hubbard to flip on January 1

Is WGFT 1330 AM going off the air?

A former colleague of jamz 101.9 filled me in on what is the latest going on at Bernard Youngstown. WGFT, and WASN will continue to be on the air after the first of the month with a jock less music format. Despite reports in the vindicator, WASN is not going dark as planned as the station along side WGFT is in the process of being sold to new owners that are locally based in Youngstown and Skip has decided to keep them running at least until the end of Jan (Jan 28)when the lease is up for the studio at 20 federal plaza in downtown Youngstown. Plaza optical will be moving into the old studio which fronts Federal street.

The plan is for the two AM's to go dark for a day and return with no DJ's just music as there is a plan in the works for the AM radio stations that will be announced soon. The whole staff except for Cathy who runs the front desk have officially been let go as she is winding down the Bernard Youngstown operations over the next month. If things continue on schedule, some time on Tuesday WBRP will flip to EMF and they have been in the area preparing for the new station by installing their equipment at the transmitter site in New Bedford PA

As of tonight WHTX has not flipped to the Urban "The Touch" format. What I heard regarding Bernard's two AM's is that one if not both will continue with an urban format, and they, or a new owner has picked up an FM translator.

From what i have heard, the owner of 94.3 sold his Niles translator to a local radio exec who plans on feeding one of the two AM's(1330 or 1500) with urban AC using the jamz brand and 'RBP call letters as the jamz brand, call letters, website or any IP property was not included in the sale to EMF and the new owner wants to create a Youngstown version of WAMO 660/100.3 in the valley..

I have been told by the WGFT and WASN engineer that the new format on 101.9 will not happen for at least 2 weeks to a month as they do not want to "shock" any former listeners.

problems with the ground system as the signal goes in the wrong direction and was operating illegally. Also rumor is new owner is fixing up the signal before a relaunch later this year along side 94.3 FM.

DUE TO THE THEFT OF ITS GROUND SYSTEM, WASN WILL REMAIN SILENT UNTIL SUCH TIME AS THE GROUND SYSTEM CAN BE REPAIRED AND THE STATION RETURNED TO LICENSED OPERATING PARAMETERS. LICENSEE UNDERSTANDS THAT IT MUST RETURN WASN TO OPERATION WITHIN ONE YEAR OF SILENCE COMMENCEMENT WHICH BEGAN ON FEBRUARY 27, 2013.

This is all tied into the impending change of ownership of the two AM radio stations as they are impending to be sold and upgraded.
