WRBQ Monday Morning

It's going to be very interesting to listen to Mason Dixon on Monday morning.

With all these years of experience, he's got to handle this situation as a pro and not let his audience down. This is his chance to prove to all that he is "the man". I know it hurts to see his long time team members go, but he's got to remember that he was the main guy. That's why it was called the Mason & Company.

Mason, all ears and eyes will be on you especially on Monday morning. Don't freak out and do your thing like you have done all these years. Show professionalism above all.

This is your time to shine and to show all out there that in good times and bad times, you can manage things.

You've got LOTS of supporters out there. Now, don't let us down.

What about the rest of the day? Seems like Jack Miller is being kept as his name was not in the article and he is still on. I guess if Joe O'Brien could do AM drive alone on WMCA----why not one person?

After reading the LA post about Holiday Music, I need to add ( for my own reading pleasure) that WRBQ better be really great because I have only had them on just to see who is gone. I will not listen to xmas music and I am really getting to like the Point. I assume the new line-up will look as Elvis used to say "It goes sumptin like this"

5AM-----Mason ( with reparte with whomever does traffic or weather)
10AM----a female dj as in most similar stations . ( finally I hope) As much as I liked the old Q, this did give me a philosophical problem. Maybe Holly VT'ed from Charlotte.
3PM-------Scott Walker
7PM-------Jack miller
12--------JHANI VT'ed from LA .

Too bad Ryan Seacrest works for CC

Seems like a good plan.

Nikki Cruz and Bobby Rich weren't on the list so I assume they will do News/Weather/Traffic ??? 8)

Then it goes sumptin like this

5AM---------Mason
9AM---------Nikki
12 ----------Bobby Rich
4------------Scott Walker
7------------Jack Miller
12-----------Jhani Kaye

I just want to say as a father of five (with the youngest at 13) that it has been a joy to have that morning crew at Q105 on the air.

I am one who for years has driven my kids to school in the morning and it has been so very nice to have a family friendly, entertaining show on in the car.

Thank you Mason, Bill, Jo Jo and all of the staff at WRBQ. For a dad who has more important things to worry about than what strange things come off the radio into my kids ears, you folks have been there for me.

Oh, and you are funny too.

Other than Cowhead who used to post here, I have no idea who works where. I assume some of you work for CC because of how you jumped in to defend MJ. I know one person works in North Carolina. If anybody here is in CBS management, I hope you are counting the posts about Q105 and how long they tend to continue. I just want to say that you all better have a fantastic product after Christmas because you just took apart a fantastic product and the Best of the Bay. Q105 must be the most beloved station in Tampa Bay. Although I tend to dump on Cox, they are a more honest suitor. They don't give then take away. When the airstaff at WBBY was let go to create the NEW EAGLE-------nothing like this occured. Cox is like a date that is dull from the first introduction. CBS gave us an exciting ride and now they are leaving the building. CBS used to be a class act. Edward R. Murrow anybody? Although I admit I don't always agree with Mason politically, he programmed one heck of a station. You got a tough act to follow, Scott Walker.

WOMC in Detroit was #10 Persons 25-54 in the Summer 2007 book. Under Scott Walker's guidance, the station is now in a tie Persons 25-54 in the Summer 2008 book. I guess he's up for the job......

Jack Miller is PT, so he did not get let go.

I'm expecting we we will Tom Kent via Satellite at night and Bobby works for Metro - not WRBQ.

I heard what sounded like three live voices over the weekend. Jack Miller, Ric Russo and Nikki Cruz; I also heard a monica last friday. with mason, is that all they have left?

Maybe Q will come back better, but then it takes very little to be better than The New Eagle or any station voted again number one at work.

Is Tom Kent the guy who does "Classic TOP 40" ?

Yep. TK is a pure jock and a nice guy. Has several syndicated coals in the fire. Back at the start of the summer, he offered me the job of affiliate sales for his shows. Unfortunately I had to turn it down. Tom's a super guy.

If I still had my job, I wouldn't have all this time for RADIO! But on that note, I have WOMC streaming as I type. They sound like WRBQ turned up a notch. (or on speed)

1) They are Sixties intensive
2) Strong personalities that sound like a Sixties station. The wenbsite shows 16 people including Tom Kent and OMG-----Dick Purtan from the CKLW and WKNR glory days. Bet he doesn't come cheap.
3) An old school jingle package.

I think it sounds fantastic and would love this here. BUT! How would this be a cost cutting move? Unless you VT'ed their people. Every song I'm hearing is a high tempo Sixties hit. A lot of Motown, but I guess it is Motown!

If we are going back to the future-------bring it on. I just don't see why the fired people couldn't have fit a more rapid fire format. But what do I know.

And they still use the "Oldies" moniker and Drake like jingles like "the hits just keep on comin" ! It is like having CKLW back. I think I'm in radio nirvana and I'm about to swoon. OMG. What comes after this is a really private moment for a sixties radio groupie. (They even have a "Big Chill Bar and Grill " at Noon. Like a "Bouffant Buffet!" on uppers)

Thanks for the tip on WOMC . I just might keep it all the time and "CRANK IT UP" . Right now I'm listening to JT and he is really just like the old days. And no all xmas. It is the grooviest and I'm not kidding.

Thanks Randy! And a big shout out to SSUMMERS. I can see Motown from my porch.

A record ( not John Landecker) . Nobody has posted on Q105 in almost 12 hours. Guess I'll DX WOMX on the old computer and close my eyes to visions of Detroit City and just imagine that its 1964, I look like Jane Fonda, and CKLW is blasting out of every car radio all across Mid-America. Or not.

If you liked Detroit Radio back in the 60's you need to check out www.keener13.com A great website on this Detroit giant. Also, a couple years ago, WSRZ Oldies 108 in Sarasota sounded very similar to the Big 8 back in the old days. They had a lot of former CKLW people on staff. From Big Jim Edwards who was a very popular jock in the big 8 days on CKLW to the best radio newsman around Grant Hudson, who if you ever can listen to a copy of his aircheck of 20/20 news regarding the "Louisville Slugger" bat, you will know that Grant was never a rip and read guy. Even the afternoon guy was a CK grad. The station now, even though it has a pretty good morning team, has nothing much left any longer.

Thanks for the website. Still the mystery remains:

1) A WOMC/KRTH clone would be a bigger production and I assume more costly than the old Q

2) I can't see how the current Q staff couldn't have executed a more upbeat sound givin the music and the jingles.

3) If they are really bringing WOMC to Tampa, I would love it in the car-----------but again ---Bada Bing!---------it sure wouldn't be a cost cutting move unless I am really out of how these things work.

WOMC even has that raspy little voice in its jingles. I can't remember when I heard that. Probably on KQV in 1962.
