I spoke the first words ever spoken over the then WTNL (AM-1390), back in June, 1976. Everybody told 'em that they'd made a big mistake in hiring me. Well, it took over 30 years for the curse to take effect, but I guess "they" were right
WRBX went (and applied for permission to be) silent on September 19th.
They've stated staffing issues to be the problem. The grapevine says the entire staff walked out. I don't know how many folks we're talking about, and I don't know the reason for the walkout.
The station is owned by a Baptist church located near Fernandina Beach, Florida.
I also heard that former station owner Bob Ritchie died back in August. Bob was one of the four original owners of WTNL, and was the station's engineer.
In 1978,WTNL was a professional sounding Top 40 station.I just gave my age away.It lacked in equipment,a gatesway 80 in the control room, and a 5 channel mc martin board for production.Sorry to hear about Bob Ritchie.
Any chance they would sell to a non-religious group? I read a story in the Reidsville paper that said they wanted the station to remain a religious entity.
