WRBZ AM 850

When everything has settled out and the FCC says 850 is WKIX-AM, I plan to go into Wikipedia and fix everything. (I didn't write any of the stuff on Wikipedia now.)

Re: WRBZ AM 850/WCOG 1320 G-boro

Hi All,

I do not know very much about the Greensboro market. I am out of the industry now, so I can only go by what I see on the net.

Curtis Media Group just bought WCOG AM 1320. I wonder what the chance would be of Curtis putting the 'Channel 85' format (WRBZ/WKIX-AM) on WCOG.

Agreed, WKIX-AM needs some tweaking. However, they are running promos saying they are adding songs to their playlist and inviting listeners to call with requests and suggestions. After they get it to 100% (and I believe they will!), I think it would be good to put the format on in both markets. With the limitted programming options for AM stations, I think the 'niche' oldies format I believe they will come up with would be a good fit for two AM's that need a boost. JMHO

Thanks!

SW...lol...Clearwater/Blackwater/whatever.
bottom line: who listens to AM anymore?
1. talk.
2. religion.
3. not english.
even Sports has abandoned AM
and Talk has just started.
so....Music? it might just work.
ain't no competition out there.

maybe you will hear John Denver sing today "Hey, it's good to be back home again." (after a long and rambling trip)

WKIX, Raleigh. Call letter change effective NOW.

Rummor has it. 850 WKIX will be simualcasting Y-102.9 and- 102.3

I don't see that happening, on February 8th, the owners of "Y-102.3" has applied for a re-location of their tower near Clayton and a slight power increase to 2,600 watts, which means a better signal for places in Johnston and Wake counties.
By the way, has Y-102.9 dropping their streaming?

radio-locator.com has nothing about y-1023 change of tower location

By the way Y-102.9 no longer streaming by the way.

I guess this could become a trend as music royalties go up and could force many more stations to discontinue their stream,
some have already like "Dixie 105.7" near the Outer Banks and "Star 102.5" in Southern Pines, smaller stations will be the
first to do this, and look for more in the coming months.

It's cheap if they do a simualcast all together. WKIX AM 850, WKIX 102.9, WWMY 102.3, someone I knew that has been  in  radio a long time told me this was gonna happen.  He use to work at WPTF?

As, fars i know of WPTF still streams online.

They could form a service call the "KIX Radio Network" consisting of WKIX 850 and 102.9 in Raleigh, WWMY 102.3 in Goldsboro,
WPCM 900 in Burlington, and WCOG 1320 in Greensboro, and also online.

I couldn't pick up WRBZ in February, but I did one day last week. I just needed to get out in the country away from the power lines. This is only possible on a new road that hasn't has power lines built along it.

And I liked what I heard. The station ID is kind of annoying but there's an "Oh wow" quality about it. A DJ did a traffic report. It must have been live (or nearly so) because that's the only way traffic reports can be. It's hard to say whether he was any good because i never heard a WKIX DJ, but he sounded good to me.

Now if Jeff Rollins were on in the morning and Carl Hampton in the afternoon ... still, the music isn't that far off. At least what I heard last week.

Since I listened to the station, Wikipedia has reported the call letter change to be official.

Y-102.9 will drop 102.3 simualcast in 6 months. I heard 102.5 will move to the Raleigh -Durham area.

The 102.5 WKXU im talking about is out of Louisburg. I heard that 102.5 - 102.3 will simualcast each other in 6 months. I guess an Hot Ac format for could be comeing to the Triangle?
