WRCH extends morning show back to 9AM

On August 31st, 2010 I made a post about WRCH ending their morning show at 8:30 for 60 minutes of uninterrupted music. http://boards.radio-info.com/smf/index.php?topic=174835.0

As of today April 12th, 2012 they have extended their morning show back to 9AM. On their Facebook page they mentioned they got lots of emails and letters asking them to have the morning show stay on til 9AM.

I guess in Southern and Western cities, the workday begins more at 8 or 8:30 and ends at 4:30. In the Northeast, most offices are open from 9 to 5. So I guess 9 o'clock is when a Northeast AC at-work station should start its commercial-free hour.

I've heard some Southern AC stations start their commercial-free hour as early as 8am. Lite-FM in NYC starts at 8:40, I guess for those workers who get in the office a bit earlier than 9am.

Of course, most AC stations charge their highest rates for commercials that air during the morning show. If WRCH starts its non-commercial hour at 9 instead of 8:30, they have time to squeeze more commercials in during morning drive. I think that's another reason many stations start their morning show at 5am. If the morning show is on the air, they can charge maximum rates for that first spot break at 5:10. If the overnight DJ is still on till 5:30am, or more likely, the automation equipment is still on the air till 5:30am, you really can't charge morning show rates.

... but everywhere in the country, the lunch hour is always at 12 noon, according to the radio... When was the last time a station was bold enough and did a "lunch request hour" feature at 1 PM, when some employees actually take their lunch break? ???
