WRCH installing HD Transmitters Today

Sweet! Even better quality sound for a station I still won't listen to! Thank YOU! ;P

If anything, I'm getting almost nothing with WKCI-FM 101.3 Hamden (KC-101) on either my Sony stereo and my Panasonic Walkman. They normally come in OK here in New Britain's south end.

What are WRCH's plans for its HD-2 stream? Smooth jazz? AAA? Either format would be a nice addition to the Hartford dial.

I get WKCI's HD signal just fine here in Meriden. When are they going to put something other than a slightly lagged simulcast on HD-2? Come to think of it, when, if ever, is WPLR going to start an HD-2 stream?

I'm a big fan of WDRC-FM's "Big D on HD" -- although it sorely needs artist/title data if it's going to play stuff like "Go Jimmy Go" and "The Inconveniences of You" -- and I think Clear Channel does a good job on the "deep tracks" stream it programs on WHCN HD-2 as well; it's not as "out there" as XM's Deep Tracks channel but I find its mix of familiar and deep more satisfying.

Ibiquity can shove it up their (well you know). All they have accomplished so far is to pad a few pockets and even further limit the bandwidth and quality of traditional AM radio, as well as the general quality of FM.

I will never, ever buy a so-called HD radio as long as I live. I work hard for my money and it will never find its way into the pockets of those greedy monopolists. Why is it that a technology as contrived as "HD Radio" receives so much promotion and publicity, when a perfectly formidable and enjoyable format... C-Quam AM Stereo, failed so miserably?

So-called 'HD Radio' is a VERY far cry from "high definition". Sure, it's digital, but it causes more problems than it solves and it sounds like crap in most cases to boot. It's all about investors and has nothing to do with sound quality. It's little more than another method of shoving 20 pounds of crap into a 5-pound bag.

Do yourselves a favor. Go out and get a sat radio. Granted, the sound quality has a few small issues, but at least the programming dares to go outside the box. I love radio as much as the rest of the folk here, but terrestrial radio is killing itself. 'HD' Radio is nothing but snake oil.

Proudly listening to Sirius 65 Bluegrass as I write this,

cbsradio.com did have what WRCH-HD's format was going to be. But i would say its going to be Jazz. As thats what it said before.

So we should keep our money away from the "greedy monopolists" of Ibiquity and send it to the greedy duopolists -- who want to become monopolists -- of XM and Sirius? HD Radio is all about the investors and satellite radio isn't? Okaaaaayyyy....

"Out of the box" on FM, at least in the Hartford and Springfield markets, means deep album rock, smooth jazz, '50s oldies, Americana, classic country, Latino pop -- genres that have either been abandoned by the FM stations or which never existed in these markets. With HD, Hartford has '50s oldies on DRC, classic country on WWYZ, deep album rock on HCN, Latino pop on WZMX, and apparently is close to getting smooth jazz on RCH. Springfield has Americana on WPKX. Yes, all these formats are available on satellite, but satellite means an initial investment in equipment AND payments for service forever.

Yes, the Accurian is overpriced, but so is most of XM's and Sirius' gear. Regardless, once you've paid for your HD receiver, that's the end of your financial commitment to Ibiquity. You'd think that if they really were the greedy SOBs you make them out to be that they'd want more from you than that, wouldn't you?

I love my XM, my shortwave, my AM, my FM and my HD. I see no snake oil in any of the receiver investments I've made over the years, including HD.

CTListener,
proudly listening to "Here Comes Summer" by Jerry Keller on Big D on HD ... with an exhibition baseball game on XM on in the background!
