I turned on my radio this morning to New Life 91.9 and the station was almost unlistenable here in Kannapolis. Gary Morland was on the air taking a call from a listener wanting to know what was up with the station's spotty signal. Gary said that they were doing some stuff and that the station would be on and off for awhile and in the end it would be better. I'm assuming that the upgrade to 30kw is in progress.

That station is almost unlistenable, and I'm not talking about signal quality. ;)

Oh, I know, a station that promotes family values and christianity is just terrible...sarcasm...sarcasm...you may not like the station, but it sounds very professional and it has a huge listenership. You are entitled to your opinion, but the station is big. You are obviously an atheist and probably from up north...that is fine...that is the beauty of america.

Jim, Now, now enough of that. I know a few christians who might not like what WRCM does. To many of them if it's not hard core Souther Gospel then it's the Devil's music to them.

Atheist from up north? Man that's really cold. There are many Christians up north as there are atheist's in the south.

WRCM sounds very professional to me. Some may not like it but that doesn't make them an atheist, maybe just an Agnostic? ;)

WRCM New Life 91.9

New Life 91.9 is a very popular station. I know that some people don't enjoy Contemporary Christian music, but as a Christian, the music helps keep me focused on living out my faith.

I do get tired of hearing the same songs over and over again. It seems that the songs that were popular back in 1993 are still being played very heavily. I wish there was more variety like I hear on 89.3 WBFJ-FM in Winston-Salem.

Another complaint I have with New Life 91.9 is that they are so female-oriented. I get tired of hearing about what the air talent's 1 year old child said that was SO funny. I love my kids, but I try not to bore everyone else by talking about them all the time. I know that just about every station on the dial is geared towards the female listener and as a male I don't feel welcome. It's not just New Life 91.9. 106.9 The Light WMIT is the same way.

Side note: I posted it on the It's Back thread also that New Life 91.9 did start playing all Christmas music this morning at 7:15.

What a waste of air space!

I'm assuming that you are trying to start a debate by posting your last opinion. It seems like we say this over and over on this board, but here it is again. Just because you don't like a station doesn't mean it is a waste of air space. I may not like your favorite station, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be on the air. I don't like 96.1 The Beat or 107.9 The Link, but that doesn't mean that my neighbor doesn't enjoy it. If I need more variety there is always XM, Sirius, CDs, iPODs, and the internet.

While we are on the topic of New Life 91.9; I was looking around their website and found that the station is looking for a Morning Show Host. The primary responsibilities mention assisting the Program Director with overseeing programming of Spanish music station (no on-air duties). I wonder if New Life 91.9 is adding an HD Spanish channel?

Johnny, Read the WRCM employment application:

http://www.ciu.edu/employment/WRCMApplication.pdf

While granted it's their right to hire who they want I think their employment application isn't exactly filled with Christian love.

I worked there in the early days on the computers at the station. Many times I gave my time freely and spent money on equipment very carefully buying only what was absolutely necessary. I left because I was only working part time and they needed more help on their systems than I could provide while working my other job which paid the bills.

I was never on the air, always polite and respectful, never cursed as one would never curse in church. According to their application I would not meet their standards today. I'm Catholic as was my father. Do they have the right to dictate what I believe or mandate what I do on my own time?

Where is God's love?

Except for an occasional thread such as this one, you don't ever hear anything about the station. Last time I heard anything about WRCM (and I been in the biz since way before 91.9 came on), it was complaints from WSGE (91.7) listeners.

WRCM is very popular on the east side of Charlotte and all around the Monroe area.

In the last couple of years WMIT has made a lot of progress and gained many listeners from what I have seen.

Really? Do I really need to explain this? Wow!

NON-COMMERCIAL Stations, those typically between 88.3 and 91.9, are NOT included in the ratings! I have a felling that you anti RCM folks do not live in Charlotte. Have you not noticed the 100's of 91.9 bumper stickers and front vanity plates on cars around town? RCM is huge! The Observer had am article out about once a year that includes non-commercial stations in the mix. RCM and FAE come in high. I think RCM comes in around 5th or 6th if memory serves. That is huge for a tiny C3 directional station. They are one of the most listened to Christian stations in the US. Most of you probably think I listen, but I don't. I may listen 30 minutes a week. However, I respect what they have accomplished and wonder how many of you have checked your facts.

Not much use in trying to debate the listenership issue. I recognize Jim's right to his opinion, but years of ratings books tell a very different story. (yes I know Arb and others don't publish non-com ratings, but they ARE rated, just the same)

After looking at the application that started all this, I agree with Mike- there might be labor law or right to work issues here...

I guess my situation was a bit different. I worked for WNOW when it was a Christian station and later WRCM as a contractor not an employee. I consider myself a Christian and Catholic. While working at both stations I was careful to always be respectful and I didn't discuss my views or personal opinions on religion with others.

There were never any questions asked by either station about my beliefs that made me feel uncomfortable in any way. There was though a comment made by someone who was in management at WNOW that I found amusing. The person said to me that I couldn't be a Democrat and still be a Christian. I made no comment and I think it was better that way.

I'm not that crazy about Southern Gospel either.

I like WYFQ.

Oh, yeah, someone posted about Columbia Bible College on the other WRCM thread.

That reminded me of WMUU of Bob Jones University. While they're not entirely a Christian station, that's good Christian music too.

As their slogan states, WMUU is indeed "unique". At times they are a bit too slow-paced or "sleepy" for me, but I do check them out about once a week because it is good clean, Christian radio and they are different--a breath of fresh air in a sea of cookie-cutter stations. And although I'm not a frequent listener, it's one of those stations I would certainly miss if it ever went away.

You do realize they're mostly secular?

I do wish I could pick them up more often.
