WRCR 1700 flips to India Radio Format

Now that WRVR has flipped to India Radio i'm wondering if other India stations will remian the same or change formats. Currenty there are 3 India formats. WRCR 1700, WWRL 1600 and WICR 1620 AM Any thoughts ?

Well, they're probably different owners targeting different audiences. WWRL 1600 is Hindi pop music and Bollywood hits. WRCR 1700 sounds aimed older. Most of the morning and midday was religious Hindu programming, lectures, chants and religious music. The afternoon sounded secular but older than 1600.

And I'm not sure about 1620 that you mentioned. I don't think there's a 1620 in the NYC area, since WWRL is 1600. I checked for WICR and found those call letters belong to an FM station in Indiana.

There had been lots of talk elsewhere* about the fate of the new cement balloon on 1700 (which replaced the lead time capsule on 1300). Many insisted that the new facility was refurbished and put on the air not as a permanently optimistic dwelling but simply as some sort of audio-filled apartment to rent out. If such skepticism was the intent all along .... WRCR certainly had not just a vision but a sub-option.

WRCR's music at night used to come in rather well. Sometimes, their Little River Band Of Your Life playlist was the only music you could hear on a decent AM portable on the terrace. But at once, their music was both a delightful rarity plus a white flag at half-mast. People over a certain age can detect these situations and await the expiration date.

We're out of reception range here in Coal Country PA. So is the 1300 place still on the air under any auspice?

1300 went off the air when 1700 signed on. 1300 really was a terrible signal.

It really is too bad about the "full service" format on 1700...but it never had a chance and I'm guessing that was the plan all along.
Leasing can serve the station's owner well if there is demand. I doubt they would have thrown the money into upgrading the facility if this wasn't part of the business plan.

Shoot, and I was going to eventually drive up there are pick up their HD signal, that was the only music station on AM in my area that broadcasts in HD. Its about 90 miles away, but the HD does come through a few hours before sunset on good days.

Maybe there's some audio recordings or something I can find online of their HD signal.

I was fearful a format change was going to happen.

Our baseball team here in Ottawa frequently plays the Rockland Boulders, who's games were aired on WRCR. The local station that carries the games here in Ottawa is a 100 watt FM station licensed to a college and only covers the west side of town. It was often easier to hear the evening games on WRCR. The average radio could not receive the local station in my part of the city but we had no problem with WRCR.
