Re: WRDM-LP Finds a NEW Home..........

Interesting. I bet their coverage area will increase significantly. I checked the FCC website and they are still showing the old channel 13 coverage area.

Re: WRDM-LP Finds a NEW Home..........

How long has this been planned? This is the first time I'm hearing about this. Also, doesn't WHCT-LP channel 38 transmit from the same tower? Anyways, I just checked Comcast cable channel 13 at 9 AM. They're still on that channel. Also, I saw the Telemundo logo but no onscreen ID added locally.

As for WRDM-LP, did this have anything to do with the explosion at Bulkeley High School on Wethersfield Avenue in Hartford last week? (It knocked out power to a portion of the area.)

I'll have to check if I receive that. I live a few miles south of Maple Avenue and can not even pick up a trace of 13. Maybe a decade ago, I used to get it pretty clear, back when they had RAI. (I miss the Italian channel so much...)

Re: WRDM-LP Finds a NEW Home..........

WRDM-LP has been planning to move to Channel 60 for MONTHS, if not a year or more.

By the way, their old transmitter was located atop the "stilts" building in downtown, not maple avenue........

I'm always happy when people read my NorthEast Radio Watch (<a target="_blank" href=http://"http://www.fybush.com">www.fybush.com) and quote from it here on Radio-Info.com (and elsewhere, too.)

I'm not so happy when it's done without any attribution, in violation of both Radio-Info.com policy and my own copyright.

Please be a bit more courteous in the future...thanks!

(I'm happiest, incidentally, when people actually subscribe to NERW, but that's another story...)
______________

It is channel 50 not 60.

The old transmitter and yagi style ch 13 antennas are on the roof of the WTIC-TV building. Their chief engineer, Sal Minniti, has taken me up there before. It wasn't an impressive setup by any means.

Channel 50's new coverage area is about three times of what 13's was...
but that is also part in thanks of now being on WCCC-FM's tower now.

Their sister station, WDMR-LP is going to go to Channel 51 this summer with a side mounted antenna from their own tower on Provin Mountain in Feeding Hills, MA with a whopping 140kW signal aimed due north-south. The overlapping coverage of these two signals will give Telemundo essentially "full power" coverage in Hartford-Springfield.

Is WHCT-LP 38 on the air? I know they've been off and on a lot with transmitter problems.

My Channel 50 Experience...

I received a faint and snowy color signal at my place of work in Newington this evening (along the Berlin Turnpike). I'm getting very little signal of this new station at my home in New Britain's south end. Somehow, it looks almost identical to the crappy signal I get from channel 22 of Springfield. It is now almost impossible for me to get in any signal of WEDW-TV (PBS) channel 49 from Bridgeport.

How far will WDMR-LP's transmitter be from the WNYA-TV channel 51 transmitter in the Pittsfield, MA area? Will it be side mounted from the WWLP-TV transmitter?

Yes, WHCT-LP channel 38 of Hartford is still on the air, with an even worse signal than that of the new channel 50.

Lastly, doesn't Providence, RI also have a low-power Telemundo station on channel 50?
______________

I may be wrong, but I think that channel 13 is still on the air. It's tough to tell from New Britain's south end with an indoor antenna.

you mean WRIW LP-50 out of Providence, right? I have a hinch about ZGS truing to provide full power coverage in Southern New England (outside of Boston,) using three stations on 50 and 51, and improving coverage to the Head ends for cable providers, not to forget ZGS is trying to get more of their Telemundo affiliates out of Boston on DirecTV and Dish Network through retransmission consent deals. We'll see how this works out when their new torch on 51 in Springfield launches (which I believe it will be from Provin Mountain besides the transmitter of WWLP, as it currently is on 65)

Its on a shorter tower north of the main WWLP tower.

Re: My Channel 50 Experience...

I checked out this channel last night. There was an ENGLISH-language shopping program on it at around 1:00. Is that normal?

Re: My Channel 50 Experience...

The Jewelery Channel buys time from ZGS in the overnight hours on several ZGS owned Telemundo affiliates inclduing WRDM-LP/WDMR-LP in Hartford/Springfield and WZDC-LP in Washington DC. Not sure if they buy time on WRIW-LP in Providence or on WNEU/WTMU-LP in Manchester/Boston.
