WRDU and WKSL...what's next

I have been watching the ratings of both stations and listen to The Rooster from time to time. RDU's ratings are terrible and just keep getting worse. KSL is no charmer either. RDU has one live morning DJ who sounds like he is 16 years old and the other dayparts are clearly tracked out from other markets. Does anyone have any insight as to what Clear Channel will most likely do with these terrible preformers? Lastly, rating suggest that people are starting to remember why they are sick of The Steve Miller Band after 25 years and are tuning off The River. Any thoughts on that as well?

It is a real tragedy on WRDU. Thinking back to what was built and destroyed over there as Classic Rock makes it even more painful. Of course, the real destruction started there when Clear Channel traded the Urban stations here for those formerly great stations and kicked a bunch of good people to the curb like Brian McFadden, Kitty Kinnen and others. Of course, the irony is that Kitty ended up at WFXC (previously CC) and now is back on a CC station in WRVA.

Now WRDU's grand ambitions to take down WQDR look like they will not materialize. WQDR is at the top of the ratings, and you can't get much lower with a 100kw stick than WRDU has sunk, and you are right WKSL is not much further but does not have the same kind of ratings history or signal which WRDU has benefited from.

The next step is probably more of the same until CC figures out they have to change to grow again. What they change to will depend on what the PPM flavor of the month is when that awful methodology comes around to screw things up further. Do I hear Jack? Do I hear AC? Do I hear Classic Rock?

Well I would think they have to be careful not to have stations competing with each other. A classic rock will pull from RVA and they danced around AC with KSL and it didn't help (they thought they would pull from 101.5). KSL was getting a little chr but Randi West did'nt like the idea of loosing any listeners from G-105. RVA rating are on the slide which may be fixed by tweaking the playlist a bit, but the others, maybe talk radio for RDU once Rush Limbaughs contract expires (clear channel does hold his papers). BTW, KSL has a 100k stick too!

Urban will have to be next for one of them. 97.5 has been idling for too long and can be knocked off with little or no effort. Make 93.9 Urban and then make 106.1 Chinese Hits like a station in Norfolk did for a stunt. I could see talk happening.

Might want to wait until the recession is over the flip formats. CC (via Premiere) can give PTF 90 days notice and take el rushbo off of there any old time they choose.

How anout Jammin' Oldies? What a novel concept!! :D

Sounds like something that might work... keep the Kiss name and logo but tweak the music. Don't know about the Chinese hits thing on 106.1 though...

i have been saying this for years...clearchannel knows how to dethrone urbans in other markets....clearest case is 106.5 the beat in richmond
