WREC & WMC-TV

Any insight into the new alliance between WREC and WMC-TV News?

Now tha's gonna confuse those folks over 80 who still call WREC to ask what the Early Movie's gonna be and where's Kitty Kelly anyway!

I didn't know of the alliance, but this now explains why I heard Tim Van Horn doing weather in one of WREC's newscasts today.

Since CC owns WREC as well as ABC24/UPN30, this is a strange one.

WREC, the Mid-South's news leader, with news from Cincinnati, traffic from Melody Meadows' house, and weather from 1960 Union Avenue!

Of course, Clear Channel is trying really hard to get those sold, along with the rest of the TV properties. But, it's now in court, as the buyer apparently has had buyer's remorse.

It's now up to the lawyers, and a suit for Specific Performance. Dang Lawyers! Can't trust any of 'em.

The CC / WMC thing has been in the works for some time. Sorry, I was sworn to secrecy.

It makes sense, though. ABC 24 / 30 weren't exactly burning up the ratings.

Yikes - I'm just 51 and remember all of that. I used to like the Pabst Blue Ribbon commercials during the evening weather with Paul Dorman. There was a barbershop quartet singing "What'll you have, Pabst Blue Ribbon, Pabst Blue Ribbon beer" as the mug of beer slid down the bar.

I now return you to your regularly scheduled topic while I go get a microbrew beer and watch a weather babe.

Thank you!!! I thought maybe I just woke up from a coma and it was still 1960!!

Didn 't "Mr. Bingle" air on Channel 5 around Christmastime way back in the day? Seems I remember that it was sponsored by Lowenstein's.

Yep on Mr. Bingle. As I remember it, he came to a sad end when he was caught fondling a gingerbread man in Goldsmith's Temptation Tunnel one Christmas.

....now that you mention it.....there was something in the opening theme to his little bit about "his heart's as big as he is and he's always bright and gay"

*ahem* Back on topic...

It would seem to me that the TV news leader could find a better way to deliver the morning forecasts other than John Bryant doing an obvious phoner. Even if he's at home in his underwear, you'd think he could e-mail WREC an mp3.

Dang 'Grapevine', what time do you get up? lol Thank you for listening.

Heyyyy, Your idea would save me gas money, wear and tear on my car and could even call it 'Nightie traffic'...hmmmm....

(Next thing ya know you guys will be posting re-runs of Dark Shadows) :D
