WRED 95.9 Saco

Do they play Hip-Hop, or more of a rythmic top-40? Is it comparable to WJMN 94.5 Boston? What are their nickname? What about there website? How's the signal, it doesn't like very large to me.....
This is in the same market with WJBQ Q97.9, any competition?
Oh, and what kind of syndicated shows, DJ's are there?

http://www.redhot959.com/

owing to Maine's huge urban population, it is a very urban sounding HipHop, angry rap station.

no - they don't compare to Jammin' in Boston. The signal is enough for them to register, quite respectably, in the Portland metro ratings. Q 97.9 is most definitely a CHR/Top40 station, so competition only in the form that both stations play new music. the Q is more mainstream while 95.9 caters to, again, Maine's huge urban population.

as to the airstaff, they both do an incredible job.

so, ok, WRED doesn't play anything but local Maine rap artists' songs?
Don't they play new hiphop/r&b like Akon, 50 Cent, T-Pain, Lil-Wayne etc

and that website is outdated, they haven't updated in 2 years!

Red Hot 95-9 plays a lot of the rhythmic that 'JBQ plays and a lot of current hip hop. There's a local hip hop show on Sunday night. The syndicated BAKA BOYZ are on right now. They carry TRL weekend countdown on Sat. & Sun. mornings.I think there are actually three people on air,Buzz,Lisa & DJ Jon,and a part-timer on weekends.A lot of people have it on in the Old Port at night. The station isn't really that bad. They recently got some badly needed new jingles. There are plenty of local ads,not necessarily aimed at the urban crowd.Too bad they don't stream. The station seems to be on a low budget, but someone is doing a pretty good job making sound pretty good.

1) I'm glad that somebody recognizes how hip Maine is, and gave the people of Portland a good rhythmic radio station. It seems like there's plenty of hip young people up there.

2) Conversely, I'm amazed that a radio website can be so awful in 2008.

yes there is, and it's sad when the Northern Maine teens don't have a station to call there own either, instead, how bout a little bit of "classic country" instead? Anyone?

pftt.....

Look like Maine Hip Hop music is dead . Unless its The Red Sox Hip Hopping around the baseball field or The Celtic Jamz in the baskets .
