WRED,the end is

They started playing a song that I'm guessing is called "hip hop is dead," over and over at noon. They're also exposing voicetracking by playing tracks mentioning other songs. I've been recording since 10 am.

Just dead air right now for WWBX 97.1 as it transitions to sports (2:33 PM)
Back on the air with Confession by Usher

Hip Hop is Dead by Nas.....if it sounded like Inna Gadda Davida then thats what it was

That was it.They played it for about 45 minutes, most of it in mono, then went silent for about 5 minutes then went to WEEI.Later this afternoon the Red Sox could be heard on 95.5,95.9.96.3 & 96.7 in the Portland area.If you were in the Augusta area, you can probobly get the Sox on at least 10 stations.

i'm ok, so far, actually i loved B97 because it wasn't too rappy but it wasn't like playing overplayed Top40 songs like "Love Song" and "Stop and Stare". I wonder why they would add a 100 songs to their playlist if they knew they were going off the air the next day? Wonder how long the website will last.... and how many ppl are getting up right now and hearing their alarm clock playing sports instead of Top40? I hate to see their reaction.

While not a fan of their format, it's tough to see another station giving way to sports or classic hits in Maine.

I remember when Z rock was on 1440 in the early 90's. Given today's choices (net, MP3 players, podcasting), I probably would not have seeked out their daytime AM signal like I did. Yet, I listened intently every day. For better or worse, it was my music.

Besides the Q, do kids have a choice for music in southern Maine? It seems that one of the other groups would want to knock the Q down a few pegs by flipping a signal.

Does anyone think this will happen?

I doubt Nassau would flip anything (unless they totally jump off the Frank bandwagon and the ratings totally tank, or the Bone looses its bite)...other than that the only other station I could think of is Saga making Coast 93.1 more top 40

Remember the short lived"POINT".WCLZ went pop leaning Hot a/c. I think they were trying to compete with KISS 99.9 at the time.I'n not a 'CLZ listener, but I know people who are(or were)and they say they don't like the direction the music has gone since the move to North Yarmouth.I don't think anyone would go up against 'JBQ.I don't think they're beatable.I think a good Hot a/c playing music like the former POINT or KISS could take some of their listeners. But who's doing bad enough to change format.I don't think FRANK will ever go away,as long as they tweak the music with the times, and they will.Musically the BONE is harder than 'BLM & FRANK and there should be more listeners. As for WRED,it's too bad but I don't see that format coming back. What station in Portland is doing bad enough to change format?
