WREF 850

Here's some WREF news.Dennis Jackson is selling his FM translator on 107.3 in Danbury to Berkshire Broadcasting for $175,000.Word is it will be used to rebroadcast WREF 850.

Interesting.

It's hard to find any music on AM anymore. WREF with it's oldies can get tiring (oldies) but it's better than the 50's-60's stuff. (anybody still alive ?)

As said Saturday I noticed it was off. I was dealing with snow and sit in a warm vehicle to take a break and listen to the radio some. WLAD 800 was there but no WREF.

I'm way down in Fairfield. WREF puts a reasonably good signal into here. WLAD less so. With today's (2011 era) junk radio receivers both could not be receivable. (if I can't pick up WLAD/WINE take the junk back)

I don't know the history of WLAD/WREF but did there not used to be a connection ? WLAD gets swamped at night by CKLW and WREF once tried for night permit ?

I did sometimes pick up WREF here at nights. (the last year) Oldies coming through the 850 mess. 850 mess ? There's is really not much there but WEEI Boston and ?

When WREF signed on as a daytimer in 1985, it was not co-owned with WLAD/WDAQ. That happened years later. You probably get WREF better than WLAD in Fairfield because WREF is farther south in Ridgefield. WREF is also 2500 watts daytime only while WLAD is 1000 watts days and 260 watts nights. WLAD is, however, more in the center of the Danbury market. I was there when it got 24-hour night power in 1986.

In the mid eighties, WLAD and WINE filed competing applications to go full-time by moving to 1160. Neither application was successful. When both got post-sunset authorization around that time, WINE got a mere 9 watts at 940 and was mostly inaudible in Danbury under CBM Montreal. WLAD has had its own night issues with CKLW, but 260 watts could still get out at 800 on I-84 to Exit 9. Many Canadian AMs like Montreal's 850 and 940 are silent, but that doesn't mean stations here can just shoot their signals north at night; they're still protected.

yes..WREF 850 is still on the air..

I just wondered why they were 'off' on a certain day.

I do hear them once and awhile on Saturday nights. Wonder why they do that.

Otherwise stations like WADS 690 and WDJZ 1530 seem to sign off when they desire.

That's probably it.

I'm way down in Fairfield and sometimes hear them way after dark here and maybe in Bridgeport but it's no listenable signal.

I've listened to them while eating at Burger-King in Brookfield way into evening (10pm..) but the signal was weak.

Fast Food Forum.

I like Burger King. The taste is better. (charcoal taste ?) The prices are better. $1 double burgers ? I say extra hot and extra onion and ya get a big meal for low cost.)(and ask for mayonnaise packages)

Otherwise Burger King seems to have the worst employees. Everybody hired yesterday and they have no idea what he h they are doing.

McDonalds. I can't believe the Big Mac had 12 calories in 1959. (?) /// full stomach ///

Arby's is good. Wendy's.

Dutchess ? (Connecticut) Many have said does it taste like beef ? Do they ever claim 100% beef ?

I liked Roy Rogers ? (remember them?)

I'm old enough to remember a Jack in the Box in Danbury. (chain still survives)

In conclusion Burger King in Brookfield you could sit there a week and see no customers.

Burger King's were many places across Connecticut but many many closed.

Not true. They sign off when the timer shuts them off. Daytimer power is 4240 watts, post sunset power is 500 watts. They drop to post sunset power at sunset and sign off completely 45 minutes later. Any variation is a technical issue that I would have to fix.

I mean no offense as to stations signing off.

I could be confused sometimes by the weather..time of day/night, etc. If I'm in a car and it seems dark out and I have no sunset chart with me ?

BUT I'd swear I've heard WDJZ after sundown. Not recent. (well..I don't listen to the station but surf the car radio and live in Fairfield)

I'm more sure WADS goes long after dark at times. It will verbally sign off but keep playing religious Spanish forever afterwords.

Are not stations supposed to sign off with an id at the end ? Maybe not anymore.

WREF I definite hear at nights at times like Saturday night. Here in this area it's not listenable in the interference but one can hear the oldies and id at times. In Danbury it's listenable but a weak signal.

I am not the FCC and the only time in last 100 years I complained about something was that 740 on Long Island. 25kw over salt water ? NO ID FOR MONTHS. I hear them id'ing now as their call in Huntington,NY(WNYE?) and WJDY and 990 Southington,Ct. FCC response ? It is not within our jurisdiction.(can't spell)

Fast Food. I guess if I were rich I'd eat anywhere. It saves money to buy bargain stuff at fast food chains.

I like Burger King but I have noted the employees seem the worst of anywhere.

-- buy several 'Double-Bucks' and ask to 'add onions' (I think anything else costs extra) and get some mayonaise(sp?)...It should fill your stomach... $3

McDonalds I'm tired of.

Wendy's has a 'dollar menu' again. Arby's does too. I heard somewhere they both just 'sold out' ?

There are plenty of Dutchess in Fairfield County.

Yes. I remember Roy Rogers. A person put their own 'toppings' on. I never figured out the formula and always overloaded the things.

Quite a few years ago the was a chain' Wetzens (??????) around here.

Taco Bell. I like them but not many around here. Their 'beef' might taste ok but looks like 'left-overs'. They taste good due to salt. Check sodium out.

Kentucky Fried Chicken. I don't know. Last I tried them I got tired of 'bones and flavored skin'.

hey..White Castle..none round here... I stopped at one while going through Columbus,Ohio and they were like something that came up from a persons stomach and was re-used.

There must be 'food forums' out there. I know there is a 'snack one'. Snooping for and remembering things other than Frito Lay.

Beer ? It's down to a couple companies ?

740 in Huntington, Long Island is WNYH. The other station mentioned in the ID is WJDM.

Pastor Selgado's Radio Cantico Nuevo is buying time on all 3 station so the legal ID on 740 AM is:

WJDM 1530 AM Elizabeth New Jersey, WNYH 740 AM Huntington New York, and WXCT 990 AM Southington Connecticut.

The 3 stations aren't simulcasting 24/7. (I also don't know if they're running 740's night time flea power or just signing off. 740's night signal hasn't been used since the days when they were simulcasting WHLI 1100).

740 WNYH seemed/seems very particular about signing off a sunset. BUT NEVER AN ID. (maybe now they do)

-- or at least I don't hear them in Fairfield --

Soon CFZM will come booming in. Their oldies on Friday/Saturday night sound good except tooooooooooo old.

Does anybody know the legal time to sign off ?? on ? WICC seems to have no pre-sunrise authority but ?

Critical hours ? I can still pick up old WKZE 1020 here on a 'good radio' days.

That new C Crane EP radio is not bad. Just got one a week ago. (I have no affiliation)
