WREN - WRAG 590 Carrollton

A couple of questions:

Did the former WRAG signal cover a lot of ground? 590 is usually a great low dial channel... How bad is the ground conductivity in west central Alabama?

I see that WZBQ, the Carrollton FM is co-located at the 590 site. Is CC the owner of the real estate?

Thanks.

I don't recall ever hearing 590 in Tuscaloosa when I lived there, but in more recent time it was pretty much a very local Pickens County signal. It usually died out around Northport and going into Columbus, MS. Whether that was due to running low power or some antenna issues, I don't know. It has struggled to stay afloat for as long as I can remember.

I don't know who owns the property, but WZBQ and WREN are at the same site but on two different towers. The ZBQ tower is very tall and has a cell phone array on it, the WREN tower is off the road a bit more and a much less substantial structure. They both share a circular driveway so it is probably all one parcel of property.

Zach,

Thanks - I saw the google "street view" on your site. The old WRAG building looks interesting. CC appears to own the FM stick, but I'm wondering who owns the real estate.

I'm surprised that Carrollton (population 987) had an AM/FM combo. Were all of the Roth Hook stations in west Alabama and east Mississippi?
