Not sure where this thread belongs but let's talk wrestling. What promotion(s) are you watching or did you watch in the past?

In NYC I watched WWE, WCW and later ECW. When I lived in Puerto Rico I always watched WWC and IWA on the weekends.

lets see....

in the past.....
being Minneapolis of course AWA
We had a couple Independent stations so Saturday Nights was WCCW (World Class)
WWF and NWA had syndicated shows before Vince went nationwide and even after they still did (before RAW started)
Obviously WWF & WCW during the Monday Night Wars
ECW (have almost all episodes on DVD here that were taped off satellite, then via tape traders)...LOVED ECW
XPW (The Rob Black promotion that wanted to be like ECW)
CZW (Combat Zone Wrestling..based in NJ then Philly and Jersey) <--they still exist but don't watch anymore
IWA Mid South (Ian Rotten promo out of Indiana/Kentucky) <--they still exist but don't watch anymore

tons of Indy shows...way too many to list. We had 3 promotions that I would regularly attend and one was on local TV. Got on TV a few times. :)

right now
Ring of Honor (on my local Sinclair station)
American Wrestling Federation (local promotion...more "fan friendly" but they get some of the "bigger" names that aren't wrestling in WWE or Impact anymore)

I always find it cool to see when someone "makes it" to WWE and you realize "I saw them wrestle at the West St Paul Armory in front of maybe 50 people"

How long has that been around b/c I read about a AWF inducting King King Bundy into its hall of fame a few yrs back on the Online World of Wrestling site.

I watch WWE I have tried to watch others and they seem lame. I’m speaking of their acting part, when they do all that show boating. Even the ring announcers sound boring.

AWF has been around here in Minnesota about 9 years. Its run by Tony Denucci (former AWA and WWF "star") ;) and they mainly put on shows as fundraisers for local schools. During the summer they are at a city's weekend festival or "days". They have a 30 minute show each week so its usually one full match and part of another (part 1 one one week and then the rest the next).
http://proawf.com/

Some of the "big name" guys that have been on shows
Gangrel (yeah he's still alive...was on this weeks show actually)
Ken Anderson/Kennedy/Mr Kennedy (he's been on indy shows here for years...was on two weeks ago)
Al Snow (and Head of course)
Jerry Lynn
Ariya and Shawn Daivari
Arik Cannon
Hardcore Holly
Hacksaw Jim Duggan
Scotty 2 Hotty
Billy Gunn
Road Dogg
Thoref (Erik Rowan....the guy with the red beard that use to be with Bray Wyatt)
Sheik Adnan El Kassie

there's probably alot more but those are the ones I remember.

There was an East Coast-based AWF around in the late '80s, I think, that featured a few older guys from the WWF along with its own indie workers. Its major distinction was trying to implement a rounds system -- like boxing, or the English wrestling of the '70s and '80s -- into American pro wrestling.

As far as the promotions, I've watched on TV over the years in my travels, let's see ....

WWWF/WWF/WWE
NWA Florida (briefly on Boston TV)
NWA Georgia/Georgia Championship Wrestling
WCW
NWA Tri-State (Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana)
Big Time Wrestling (Detroit) (briefly on Worcester, MA TV)
AWA
ICW/IWCCW (New England promotion)
Bedlam from Boston (short-lived New England indie)
NWA Dallas (pre-World Class Championship Wrestling)
WCCW
Memphis
Mid-South
Los Angeles (in Spanish, on cable in the early '80s)
Southwest Championship Wrestling (San Antonio)
ECW
NWF (Buffalo)

I think that may be it. BTW check your PMs.

One I forgot about and cant believe I did because it was on weekly in syndication and I was watching it via free to air satellite religiously

NWA Wildside then its successor NWA Anarchy

in the past:
WWE (most of the time before 2007, i got my WWE fix via antenna TV).
WCW (only WCW Worldwide when it aired on KDFI 27).
ECW (when it aired in syndication in late 1999-2000 on KSTR 49, right before it flipped to TeleFutura/UniMas in 2002).
WOW: Women of Wrestling (again, on KSTR, during's it's breif run, man that was some corny women's wrestling meant to be T**s and A** wrestling).
PCW (local indy fed from North Texas that aired on KTXA 21, from 2001 to 2003).

More recently after i got satellite TV in 2007 (originally had Dish from 2007-2016, switched to DirecTV in 2016)
WWE Raw.
WWE SmackDown.
WWE NXT (in it's pre-internet days during it's brief run on SyFy, which introduced us to Daniel Bryan, all the members of "The Nexus", AJ Lee, Kaitlyn and Naomi in 2010).
ECW (the 2006-2010 WWE version that aired on SyFy).
WWE Superstars (when it aired on WGN America).
WWE Main Event (when it was on Ion).
ROH Wrestling (briefly in late 2010-early 2011 during it's run on HDNet aka AXS.TV and again from 2015-present on KTXD 47 with the channel being a indy channel first then a stadium affiliate ).
TNA Impact/Impact Wrestling (yes, i been watching it since 2007, stuck with it even during it's more recent bad years dating back to 2013 when AJ Styles left the company)
NJPW on AXS.TV (yes, New Japan is airing on where ROH used to air pre-Sinclair buyout).
AAA & CMLL on Galavision (again don't speak spanish, but did watched lucha libre on the channel until it ended in 2011 or 2012).
Lucha Underground (started midway through Season 1, right after Dish got El Rey, been watching ever since, and yes, i did see the first few episodes on Netflix when they were on Netflix).

that's all the wrestling i have watched over the years.

Quite the variety! So you started in the late '90s?

While I never watched WOW, i will admit to having watched GLOW. I just didn't know whether to count that as "wrestling" since it was obviously meant as a spoof.

Championship Wrestling from Hollywood is a current promotion that isn't bad.

Didn't know of this promotion until today. Just checked out its website.

Never really followed wrestling, but I remember very well my grandfather watching "Big Time Wrestling" on KIMA Yakima on Saturday early in the afternoon back in the 80s. Turns out it was the syndicated name of Portland's long running wrestling show on KPTV Portland.

Wild how many territories there were named Big Time Wrestling.

And in the late '60s, the Boston Globe always listed the wrestling show that aired on Sunday afternoon on WMUR Manchester, NH, as "Big Time Wrestling." But it wasn't -- it was the WWWF show from Washington, DC, which was titled "Heavyweight Wrestling." Yet in the early '70s, when an actual "Big Time Wrestling" -- from Detroit -- aired for about a year on Saturday nights on WSMW Worcester, MA, the Globe's listings only showed "Wrestling."

I wonder if they were just clueless to the difference. There was also a Big Time Wrestling out in San Francisco where Ray Stevens was the top attraction.
