wrff should rate higher

Out of the three rock style formats, I think WRFF plays the best variety of music and does play many "oh wow" tunes. Not the same predictable cuts you hear on YSP/MMR, they go out on a limb on some songs and do promote many new alternative bands and have great contests. Granted, they are not as good as they were when they first launched but they still are the best of the bunch, they should be pulling a 4.0 or more, just on their originality....on another note, if you want to see the NOW antenna/tower I have some pics I took around Christmas on the radio insight board, cant seem to post them on this board which I am new to...thanks

I agree. WRFF's music blows WMMR & WYSP out of the water.

But what do I know? I also thought Y100 was better than WMMR & WYSP...and look where that got me! (You know what really sucks for Y100 fans? If we'd been living in a PPM world back then, there's a chance Radio One would have left it on for quite a while longer.)

I feel like WRFF does better with females than WMMR or WYSP. So they could actually be rating higher where it counts. Can anyone confirm?

Last night I heard "Every Breath You Take" on RFF.
I get the other Police stuff they play, but this one... not so much.

Aside from that, I check their "last 10 played" list frequently and think they have a pretty nice mix. I noticed they've played the newest Ting Tings and Peter, Bjorn and John singles, which is good.

Just another Y100/DRE fan here so of course I'm gonna say Radio1045 should rate higher. I wonder how many people have HD2 now though....that could account for the lack of listeners with Y-Rock around.

Oh, anyone around here will be happy to tell you that no one in Philadelphia has HD. Not even the people who do have it (like me).

In all this talk of their MUSIC, you're forgetting one important thing that a radio station needs to have to succeed in their LOCAL market: an emotional connection to their audience. Do you know the name of one personality on that station? And can you name one thing they've done in the community? No talk on your station means no talk among the people wearing the PPMs, as well. it ain't rocket science.

The numbers might go up alittle in the next month or so, providing they will get a lot of G Rocks listeners in and out of the philly area.

Well theirs Johnny and Rollins and a few others who's names escape me now, I would rather hear music than jocks yakking non stop, the music makes the station, and the jocks on RFF just say enough to keep the listener informed....I always thought that rockers were at one time, or should be, low on talk and high on music, it just makes sense....who wants to hear P&S and Pierre yakking constantly over stale Classic Rock cuts, IMHO, I would take the music over the chatter, but then it just might be my taste.

I appreciate the focus on the music, but not allowing their personalities much of an opportunity to speak hurts the station IMO. The majority of rock stations (AOR, Active, Alternative, etc.) that I'm aware of all have talk-intensive morning shows, and I think that WRFF not having one is a strike against them. It's likely that many listen to Preston & Steve in the morning and then switch over to RFF later because their music is more in tune with their tastes.

While the music is often on the money, they do have some songs that really don't belong like the aforementioned "Every Breath You Take" (that's more of an Adult Contemporary song), and acts like The Fray, The All-American Rejects and Lifehouse. Little things like this can rub the listeners the wrong way, as many Alternative fans don't take well to Soft Rock acts like these (who receive airtime on many other stations) getting played, leading them to tune out.

I see Radio 104.5 possibly appearing in the Monmouth/Ocean book, picking up some displaced listeners of G Rock 106.3/106.5, who were left without an Alternative station when Press Communications flipped it for yet another Top 40 station, Hit 106.

G-Rock's demise will have little to no effect on 'RFF's ratings. Monmouth/Ocean is a fringe market, at best.
The best chance of materially better ratings at 104.5 would involve a format change.

Gotta say, I was quite skeptical of this station at launch, but have been quite impressed that they've become one of the most successful Alt stations in the country so quickly I love checking 'em out when in Philly, and even stream when I have the chance. The music is great and I love the fact that the DJ's don't sound like they're trying to be DJ's. I don't really care what their names are, but they seem to know a few things about the bands they're playing. I, too, would be surprised if GROCK's exit made any sort of impact on any Philly station. Alternative and Rock fans in Philly should be happy to have so many great choices. NYC SUX!

I think it's a safe bet--a very safe bet--that any changes to Radio 104.5's ratings in Philadelphia will be completely unrelated to the demise of G-Rock. The station had a nice influence in its market but I can assure you there weren't enough Philadelphia listeners who even knew it existed. (I'm talking about listeners--not us and our friends! LOL.)

I don't know what 104.5's signal is like up in Monmouth/Ocean though so if they show up in that book, I wouldn't be surprised to see a little uptick there.

1045 covers ocean county clear as day, just like g rock covered lower bucks clear as day. even if it dont affect the numbers in the philly area, its almost definite that g rocks ocean county listeners will go to 1045. no one cares where the station is from, good signal + good programming = Listeners

I'm an out-of-market listener for both Philly and Baltimore. 104.5 comes in clearly in northern/eastern Cecil county MD and is bumped out by Clear Channel's 104.3 in Baltimore. Gotta say it's strange having 2 alternative stations drifting over each other but I'm not complaining....much. I actually found Channel 104.3 when listening to Radio104.5 on the fringe of its range...The Foo Fighters kept having Nirvana walking all over them....at first I thought it was a track problem at 104.5 but I changed the dial to 104.3 and it came in clearly then announced itself as Baltimore's New Alternative. I love having 2 radio markets to listen to but hate that I don't count on the stats so don't contribute to its ratings. Y100 used to come in about the same as 104.5,I could rarely get 103.9 WDRE Jenkintown though. Whenever I was too far south for Y100 it meant I was well within range of 99.1hfs but thats another rant entirely. I only know of G-Rock by what I've read on Philly forums.

Most of us don't contribute to the ratings. One doesn't contribute to the ratings unless one is carrying a PPM (or, in Baltimore, is filling out a diary).
