WRFF-Thoughts..

Chris Isaak-Wicked Game 2:30 PM

Skin Radio totally owns WRFF

how, WRFF is on FM, skin radio is on AM, and WRFF's signal reaches up past the pottsville area

I was talking quality of what I was hearing. Clearly RFF murders WHAT in coverage, but musically, WHAT owned. As of now, RFF is shaping up nicely and they're about even. It's nice to have two chioces to flip between (and three on weekends). Think back to December, when there was nothing.

i heard natalie merchant on SKIN ...yeah they own them alright...

I heard the flys, afi, nixons, candlebox, sponge, better than ezra on 1045, all I hear on skin is rap, reggae and unknown tunes. 1045 is the pure winner in this game.

They were fantastic today, Lemonheads, NIN, Ramones-rockaway beach, Faith no More, Velvet Revolver, this station is definitely not targeting only females and soft alternative freaks, they are a full blown active rocker playing tunes y-100 would never touch. They are going to be a contentender in this market..

I agree and especially with the very short breaks. I like the little jabs they seem to be taking at MMR. Less Chatter, Less commercials so the music runs longer, at least I think it is a shot at them. and I like the shots!!

They must be reading the emails b/c I could have sworn this morning I heard an sweeper this morning saying something like "Now Creed and Nickelback Free!" Has anyone else heard it? I only caught the end of it b/c I was getting back in the car.

I think I figured RFF out...it's the 500 song ipod of a 27 year old male that would actually wear a PPM monitor on his belt loop...right next to his cell phone.

Not to defend Skin, but they are playing the stuff you wouldn't hear on an FM station like 104.5. They are trying to be unique in thier own way.

You're not imagining that sweeper - my girlfriend was cracking up when she told me about it. Unfortunately, I haven't had the chance to hear it yet.

Don't bother trying to wax poetic about anything involving rap, reggae or hip-hop with RWS. It's useless.

That reminds me of a liner i heard on 96.5 the Buzz in Kansas City right after I moved out here... it was along the lines of "Remember these bands (clip of Puddle of Mudd, clip of 3 Doors Down, clip of Limp Bizkit)... yeah. we're sorry. We've learned from our mistakes."

Instant classic.

This is a good advancement. They now play less of this cornball Mullet Rock music than G Rock in NJ (this station really loves to play Puddle Of Mudd for whatever reason, among other acts - fortunately they're also sparing us the Creed and Nickelback). Of course, they still play rubbish like The Fray, Lifehouse and Evanescence that's better suited for Ben, but it's a step in the right direction.

Are they still doing this approach similar to Ben, with just station IDs and music? A big plus at the station is that the commercial breaks are very brief, though it's highly unlikely that it will stay that way forever. I definitely hope that they can reach deeper with the '90s Alternative titles as well as Currents - both have been glaring weaknesses for Radio 104.5 since they signed on. I just wish they would copy the musical template of Orlando's Real Radio 104.1 (also a CC property) because that will make this station truly Alternative and completely different from the other stations in Philly. Let's admit it - while it's not completely true of all their programming, Radio 104.5 does lean Female and that needs to change if this station wants to make an impact.

This is an interesting thought. How will Radio 104.5 be hurt by leaning female?

Because the female arena is already saturated:

B101
BEN
ISX - CC Station
XTU
Q102 - CC Station
USL - I think it's like 55/45 split - CC Station
WDAS - ditto - CC Station

Unless WRFF is 60/40 male with an average age of 28-32 Clear Channel will be fighting for share against their own properties in Q102 and WISX...and possibly pushing down WUSL in 18-34 rank.

The male rock 25-54 arena is WIDE OPEN:

WMMR - 60/40 male, average age is 32.
WMGK - old
WYSP - terrible other than PMD
WOGL - really old
WIP - old jock sniffers

Again, the thing WRFF has going for it is the light commercial load. 500 songs in rotation is not enough...they need to GO DEEPER, and the bulk of the daily spins are currently going to the "pop rock" portion. They need to get a PD with balls in there, and quick!

<<<<<<<<<they need to GO DEEPER,>>>>>>

no, you want them to...they don't HAVE to ...and please don't post anything that starts with "me and my friends" or "everyone I know" ...deep deep alt stations = low low ratings

Agreed, actually...better suited for Satellite. Philly lacks any sort of awareness to make deeper tracks work in Alt.

Because the same standard alternative tracks have been welded into our brains, noone knows how to go deep.

No, they don't have to play "deep cuts", but how about going DEEPER into the genre...all I am asking for is maybe 250 songs deeper. They have played 525 tracks in June. For a station that thinks they are doing something "different"?!!! PATHETIC!!! Wanna see something that is even more pathetic [EDIT]

1863 out of a total of 9,375 spins from 24 SONGS!!! Now, consider their commercial load.

Let me slow it down for you "i know", cause it seems like you don't - that's 20% of the time, AT A MINIMUM, I tune into WRFF I hear this:

Paralyzer Finger Eleven 104
Hey There Delilah Plain White T's 103
What I've Done Linkin Park 103
Forever Papa Roach 96
Breath Breaking Benjamin 88
Love You More Ginuwine 87
Face Down The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus 86
Kill 30 Seconds To Mars 85
Dashboard Modest Mouse 84
Read My Mind Killers 84
All At Once Fray 84
First Time Lifehouse 82
Lazy Eye Silversun Pickups 82
Steady As She Goes Raconteurs 81
Rock Better than Me Hinder 79
Hate Me Blue October 72
All The Same Sick Puppies 69
Welcome To The Black Parade My Chemical Romance 67
Teenagers My Chemical Romance 62
Rehab Amy Winehouse 60
Pain Three Days Grace 60
Capital G Nine Inch Nails 55
Icky Thump White Stripes 49
Love And Memories O.A.R. 41

Man, that is scary innovative there "I know". I am sure the 12-18 crowd is digging "Hey There Delilah".

[EDIT-namecalling]

what is the proper number of spins for "Hey There Delilah" for the month?

When you calculate, please let their Program Director know, as well as the rest of us message board users.

I was wondering when it would be realized that WRFF is just another Clear Channel cookie-cutter jukebox. It's essentially "Sunny" with a totally different bunch of songs in the rotation, a different logo, and different liners.

I dont understand why everyone hates Creed, Nickleback, Staind, Coldplay, Verve, the mellow side of Alternative, they are good bands and do belong on WRFF. I am a die hard Metalhead from way back, but I enjoy these groups. The one band who should be eliminated from all stations is U2. I despise them and their liberal lyrical jargon, especially that moron Bono, Mister Political Activist, who knows nothing about this country but has alot to say.
