WRFY playlist

What is with WRFY's playlist? It's the worst mainstream rock playlist I've heard. I heard "Hey Soul Sister" by Train on there this week and "Rolling in the Deep" by Adele. This morning, they played "You Found Me" by the Fray.

They've always been that way. It's more Adult Hits ala Jack or Ben FM then it is mainstream rock. Since they own the Reading market, they can cater to all demos.

I remember back before the appearance and disappearance of Frank FM on 107.5, they were basically a Hot AC with a huge gold library that included classic rock. Right before Frank FM signed on, it seemed like they sniffed out the competition was coming, and they focused more on classic rock without completely giving up some of the newer currents.

I wonder if they'll get hit with any of the cuts that Clear Channel is making today, which is supposed to affect CC's smaller markets...

Sorry to hear about Nick Harris. Nick has been a main stay in Reading radio for many years. Y-102 has to cover the market and does a decent job with their music. Hard to be all things and they've done it for many years.

Going back even farther, I remember around 2000 when they were a straight-ahead CHR playing top 40. They've tweaked that format so many times over the years depending on what they feel the need to do, and have always been #1. No other competition except when Frank was around for awhile. You could probably air burping noises 24/7 and they'd still be #1.

WRFY has always had a unique playlist, which doesn't really fit into any of the Premium Choice Platforms. How are they going to pull this off in middays?

Probably the same way that the rest of Clear Channel is handling it - having an out of market voice pumped in OR a solution becoming more commonplace - they won't fill the void and just have music from in middays....

Vince is covering middays and weekender AJ is covering nights. So far, everyone is still local......for now.

Is Cal Jones still a part-timer there? He did weekends for quite awhile as recently as the past year or so. I haven't honestly listened to WRFY much lately, but when I did, he's by far some of the best talent they've got there.

WRFY is interesting. As I posted some while back, they used to be a much more unique rock station, but lately they've gone to more a classic rock lean.
From what I gather, only a few currents an hour.
I remember a few years ago it was a totaly different deal, back in 2004. wasn't it in 2000 something like oh how did that go? "The best songs on the radio, Y102"?
I didn't listen during the CHR much, i wonder if there are airchecks around? From what i do remember, that didn't last long at all. i thought it was Hot AC not CHR though.

Since Nick Harris is out at Y-102, will they still air the "Reading/Berks Roundtable" program on Sunday's? If so, is someone else hosting the show?

nick will be broadcasting from various berks county key clubs with the roundtable asking the question 'why aren't poker machines legal'.........the last post is to me one of the funniest ever.....

This station used to have local talent 24/7. I took a listen to AJ within the past week. is this dude even live? if so, there's not much to the night show. All i heard in one hour between 8:40 PM and around 10 waslots of classic rock ( whitch seemd to lean heavier on the 80's), with the only thing he said was who was comeing up, what concert there was. I have an aircheck with suzie Summer overnights from 2004 and even she said more at least during the intro's. of corse maybe its mandate by CC that you can't talk at all during any intro's. or is it that everything you'd ever wanna know is on the web these days? I know i've bitched and moaned, but this station is a shell of its former self. Nick and chuck and trapper brown and them guys kept it not just local, but live too. How long you think til Al Berk is gone? He, like chuck and Nick (formally) have been at RFY for ages now. I liked Sam ONeil voiceovers much better and the processing didn't used to be as heavy on the airchain either.
