wrfy signal

I posted this on a few boards to get some results, this really stumps me why they are unlistenable in Philly when at one time they were gangbusters....I seem to remember in the 70's, 80's and 90's being able to receive this station loud and clear in the heart of Philadelphia, I think they were 19kw @ 807 feet and were owned by the Franco Family, with Mike Shannon at the helm. I tried to pick them up today for the first time in ages and there was nothing on 102.5, dead air, so I thought they were gone. I went over to the Cherry Hill area and low and behold they were coming in fine. This kinda reminded me of the old WIFI when you could not receive them in Philly but going East over in Jersey there they were, they just jumped over the Center City Area. I just checked the FCC data base on WRFY and found they are now 10kw, this puzzels me, why the decrease in power with the same antenna height, but now they are owned by CC. so whats the deal??

WRFY dropped power so Clear Channel could retain ownership of it.

CC is maxed out on FMs in the Philadelphia market ... it owns 5.

At one point when CC was becoming what it is today by buying lots of stations, someone within the government (FCC, Justice Department? I don't recall) decided that, because of WRFY's signal, it should count as a Philly station.

To retain the station, CC reduced its power. In my experience these days, I get WRFY fine up through and into the Conshohocken area. Then, the Roxborough tower farm becomes a factor, and by the time you get to somewhere between Gladwyne and City Ave. on I-76, WRFY becomes unlistenable.

Thanks for the info, it would be nice if CC tried to move WRFY into the Philly market with lower power and make it another Philly metro signal.
