WRIT flips to christmas

I tuned in this morning just to listen and heard christmas music. They now go the "The greatest hits of holiday music."<P ID="signature">______________

If another station flips, so does the other (as usual)

WMYX too.

Kinda weird hearing Celine Dion on 95.7<P ID="signature">______________

The question is, will WRIT return to oldies on December 26th or switch to something else? Not all the time, but many times, stations use the "Christmas format" as a buffer between format changes.

The one thing I don't like about how it is done is that we can predictably listen for the station to flip once the season is over, but because of competition secrecy, I didn't know when to listen to hear 95.7 or 99.1 go into their holiday formats. Did anyone catch either flip and does anyone know who flipped first?> > I tuned in this morning just to listen and heard christmas

I believe WMYX will flip back to Hot/Modern AC after Christmas. Though I'm not up in the Milwaukee area often, but based on the last few years, I don't see WMYX changing formats. WRIT might be a different story, but I believe CC jumped on it this year on the FM dial because WMYX was the sole Christmas station airing Christmas music, and benefitted from the Winter ratings. (And I'm only talking about the FM dial, not the AM dial where WOKY doesn't even cover the entire market at night).

WRIT flipped at 9

then after WMYX figured that out (They did pretty quickly) WMYX flipped within 3min after 9.<P ID="signature">______________

This is going to be interesting to see who will win this seasonal battle of "Jingle Bell Rock".

Clear Channel flips quite a few oldies stations to Christmas formats, particularly in markets where they don't have AC stations. They've been doing it to Kool 108 in Minneapolis for years.<P ID="signature">______________

My guess is they will stick with oldies. WRIT has been doing well over the past year. When WLTQ switched to the Brew, CC was smart to tweak WRIT a little to appeal to some of the displaced AC listeners. They started playing more 70s soft rock type of artists. They have a nice position as both an oldies and a default AC (which makes going Christmas a great choice), so my hunch is they will stay the course.

After saying all that watch them flip formats the day after Christmas lol. I'll eat my words if they do.

When two stations in a market go Christmas it is not uncommon for them BOTH to get a nice boost out of it. So I wouldn't be surprised if both WRIT and WMYX have good Fall books. On the other hand, in the rare cases where 3 or more stations go all-Christmas (or all-holiday to be PC, just ask Wal Mart), everyone suffers. I remember one year 5 stations in Dallas went Xmas and they all ended up having miserable books.

WRIT sounds more and more like Sunny 97-1 in Dallas did.

60s, and 70s with some 80s Soft AC (KEGL was 60s, 70s and 80s)

9-5 No Repeat Workdays (KEGL had it)
Sunday 70s (KEGL had it)

"Sunny 95-7" maybe?<P ID="signature">______________
