Writers Strike 2023?

Not necessarily recent, but during at least one strike David Letterman did return. He greatly reduced or eliminated the monologue, segments like the Top 10 list and Viewer Mail went away and he did other bits instead as filler.
Letterman had a separate deal with the union though WWP.

Conan O'Brien did his own monologue, no writers, during the 2007-08 strike. Some of them are available on YouTube and his fans praised them.

“More repeats would just be a quicker death march for syndication,” says Cicha. “It’s a critical time, and if there’s not a way to do original programming, then you can see the end of national syndication.”

It’s a very difficult decision to try to figure out how to how to move forward, even if you are within the range of what’s acceptable within the [union],” McLoughlin says.

“When you have an obligation to the stations, it’s very difficult to take a stance and say you’re not going to go back on,” she adds. “It’ll be a contractual breach, at some point.”

I wonder if the Byron Allen court shows and other new syndicated shows are going to be cancelled eventually as a result of the strike, what do you all think?

The complication here is you have actors who are also musicians. And they're using the writers strike time off to work on and promote their music. So perhaps someone like Dennis Quaid has a record out now. He appears on a talk show and they get a memo in advance saying Dennis can only talk about his music, and not promote any movie he may have done because of the strike.

Actually Barrymore has now come out to announce she’s not coming back yet and paused on production:

Also CBS The Talk is reversing course as well:

The Talk is one thing, that’s CBS’s call about their airtime. You start breaking the contract to deliver original (new) episodes of the syndicated show to the stations that are paying for it, now you’re in a different bit of trouble.

I Think we should make a campaign called: Tell the AMPTP, WGA and SAG-AFTRA: "3 Strikes for and You're Toast"
