WRKL 910 AM Pomona NY Playing Rock Tonight

This station is normally one of several simulcasting Spanish religious Radio Cantico Nuevo.
But this evening they are playing what sounds like classic hair band music.
Not sure whether they ended their association with Radio Cantico, or if there are technical problems preventing them from carrying the feed.
As this has been an ethnic station for many years, the rock is a change of pace, even though it is most likely just filler in place of an actual format.

WRKL is continuing to rock.
My guess is that owner Polnet is trying to find some other organization to lease the signal, or that a sale is pending. The station had been offered for sale a while back.
It may be difficult to do much else with a small AM station in the middle of Rockland County.

After being off the air for a few days this week, WRKL is now stunting with a very eclectic mix of music. It has included smooth jazz, rock, pop, oldies, soul, standards and country.
I would enjoy a station that has this as its regular format. But I realize a commercial radio station would probably only have something like this as fill. It resembles an MP3 player on shuffle.
Still no word on whether WRKL and/or sister station WLIM in Long Island is being sold.

A week or so there was mention of WLIM 1580 on Long Island doing pretty much the same thing.

I don't know from any (if any) PolNet ownership vis-a-vis the two stations. Perhaps someone here has a connection

Used to LOVE hearing the original WRKL 910 sign-off tune. It wasn't the Star Spangled Banner or America The Beautiful.
Instead, they'd use a deliciously appalling sound clip of what sounded like the very first orientation attempt of a junior high marching band practice.
Toot .... squeak ..... thump ..... screech ..... boomp ...... More squeaks.

Precious radio.

A radio friend of mine told me that WRKL's computer got fried by lightning last week and they're now running wide-variety of music called Radio T.E.D. TED = Timeless Entertainment Device. At one time it was airing on 1350 in the Princeton, NJ after they returned to the air after they were dark for a while.

As for their sister station 1580 WLIM in Patchouge, Long Island the reason they are running music on a loop is because Radio Adonai ran out of money and Pol-Net gave them the boot.

Perhaps Radio Cantico Nuevo stopped leasing WRKL because they are now full time on WNSW, 1430 AM.
This stunting reminds me of Long Island station WNYH AM playing lots of continuous music a few years ago till they were able to lease out the air time. Radio Cantico has been simulcast on there too full time, for a while.

I actually want to know where Radio Cantico Nuevo gets its money from. Several years ago when Radio Cantico was on 990 in Connecticut 24/7 (aside from 6 1/2 hours on Sundays) someone I know called DMG (990's owner) to inquire about buying the station (they ultimately did not buy the station) and the person from DMG told the person that Radio Cantico Nuevo was having trouble paying DMG. Radio Cantico is an engineering nightmare. Fortunately for us in Connecticut they're now only on 41 1/2 hours a week now.
