New Orleans WRKN and KKND frequency switch???

So i’m switching between stations on SDR (weirdo) and it appears that 106.1 and 106.7 swapped formats… Heaven 106.7 is now Heaven 106.1 and 106.1 the Ticket is now 106.7 the Ticket! I did not see this coming! I follow the gospel station’s instagram account and there it still says Heaven 106.7 so obviously this change is very new. There’s been a lot of changes around BR and NOLA since Jerold Jackson became PD.

Kind of an odd move in that 106.1 doesn't seem like the best signal to reach Heaven's target demographic.

It's official, my guess is to compete against 92.9.. but I'm surprised as others have said that a format change on 106.1 since now will be harder to hear in inner city.

I'm surprised that they would do this. I just know Heaven's target audience is not happy about this change. They put the announcement on their website but like a lot of Gospel listeners, majority of Heaven's target audience is old and don't know how to use computers:ROFLMAO:

Moving 106.1 south would fix this. Wouldn't be easy though because of Thibodaux's K-Love (106.3) prevents this move from happening. Maybe they could upgrade 92.3 to HD and add Heaven as an HD2. Or possibly co-channel with another HD signal.

Or unload the entire cluster since they can't seem to get a leg up ratings-wise on iHeart and Audacy in the market.
This would be unlikely. If anything they’ll probably just sell the stations to some other company. There’s another forum about NOLA seeing a new cluster.

It was due to.a rumor of Audacy and cumulus merging meaning that some stations would have to go, with most of Cumulus being rimshots, figured it would be them. And only buyers I could see is new LMA of 100.3 or Dowdys to bridge the gap on their stations.

Klove would not be able to move except south due to 106.3 in Lafayette. And would take too much of a payday for Klove to move plus it (106.1) still has to stay away from 106.7 I think like 20km due to co channel rules ?

Most people listening to radio still don't know what HD radio is.. I mean we only really have 3 HD only stations in NOLA ( rest of the HD2s feed other sites .. and if you are playing at home, last I checked was Jazz on 89.9 HD3, a more popish Christian on 89.1HD2, and the Pride station on 97.1HD2)

Everything else is either single station HD or rebroadcasting for a translator (like WRNO HD2 being 96.3 Throwback radio)

not to mention, the Audacy stations are still running the low power HD and have a ridiculous amount of dropouts unless you are immediately in the city

I wouldn't be surprised to see Cumulus take 106.1 dark at some point in the near future. They have been taking underperforming and rim shot stations dark around the country recently.
I might add that I'm sure Costello would love to get his hands on 106.1 to have a better signal for Tix on the north shore. I wonder if he would entertain a swap for 104.5 which has a much better signal in metro NOLA than 106.1

Im think more of a all out sale, but my guess is, Cumulus rather take it out of commercial play and sell to say KLove than Costello IMO.

I tend to think the whole switch came down to demographics. As you mentioned, gospel usually skews older, which makes it a tougher sale, and putting sports on the better signal makes sense for billing.

Not that it still couldn’t happen, but an Audacy/Cumulus merger seems less likely now that the main person who was pushing it has started selling his shares of Cumulus. The PE firms behind Cumulus probably regret not taking Jeff Warshaw's offer three years ago.
