WRKO Can't Be Saved

The "Save WRKO" website's URL is no longer active and may be deleted. WRKO is apparently beyond salvation. The Radio Equalizer blog is still up.

A while back, around the time the Radio Equalizer was starting to circle the EDS-drain, Entercom stock was selling for around 75 cents a share, and SaveWRKO predicted it would be delisted as it headed for penny-stockdom.

A couple of years later later, Entercom stock was selling for around 11 bucks, and SaveWRKO has been delisted.

God does have a sense of humor.

TSB

I deleted Radio Equalizer bookmark since he became obsessed with Rush only and with the rants from the unknown Mike Malloy. He used to report radio ratings with great details now its a Rush Schultz Malloy Olberman blog, what happened to him ??

I never understood... Save WRKO from what? Being a successful radio station?
Ok, so now the trend is conservative talk. Hey, if that keeps WRKO on the air, great!

Whatever happened to WBCN?
WZOU?

EXACTLY...

I was going to mention this here but figured people may not care--if anything I started my own board called WRKO TALK and we have about 15 people. Most of them were regulars of the
board Brian had. He still does have the Radio Equalizer blog and the link he has to "Boston/New
England Talk Radio", i.e., Save WRKO, now leads you to a placeholder page. He did indeed stop
doing posts around April and we got to about 700 comments on that last one. SaveWRKO started in Jan of '07 when 'RKO hired Finneran.

It should be noted that right after prog talk (the commercial type, not the taxpayer funded type)
was dumped in Boston, the first of two yahoo groups to "Save Prog Talk Boston" (and a website)
tried to get libtalk (the commercial type) back on in Boston, and they succeeded with brokered
time WWZN. The second of the yahoo groups is still around, I think.

WRKO, or "WEEI-2" as they sometimes turn out to be (BC basketball! NFL playoffs! MLB playoffs!
no room on 850? air it on 680) still puts out talk radio, long after the likes of Williams,
Brudnoy, Burns. etc have left and I can't picture Entercom abandoning talk--at least not till
'12 when Howie can (maybe?) leave.

Getting to the domain name thing: when you reach the time of "expired pending renewal or
deletion" be aware many domain name registrars will allow you to start it up again--but the price goes WAY up. I'm not holding my breath. SaveWRKO.com could well wind up as a placeholder
page with a bunch of ads. Look what happens when you try:

http://www.wbzradio.com

They're hoping CBS will spend big bucks for it, I guess.

There also was/is a Facebook group for "Bring Back Folk and Blues to WGBH". They haven't
been convinced, but one Net effort to get Steve Leveille back on WBZ (plus mail and
phone calls) did get him his job back.

My board: http://wrkotalk.proboards.com/index.cgi

("Eleanor Rigby"): Jason and Julie, washing the dirt from their hands as they walk from the grave
No one was saved... :)

Ever since Rush started linking to RE, that blog went even further downhill. It's a whiny, pathetic butt-kissing mess. Maloney long rooted for Air America's demise, and since it went away, he has no foil. He became irrelevant. It's basically a Rosie O'Donnell attack site, and really, isn't that like making fun of the handicapped? Please.

The Save WRKO site was merely nothing more than an outlet for Maloney's sour grapes.

He did have some ads on SaveWRKO and does carry some on radio equalizer; not sure how much money he makes. As for his crusades/sour grapes, he does do some videos on YouTube with
excerpts of various talk shows. Sometimes Michelle Malkin's Hot Air site will feature a Radio
Equalizer column at the top of their page, under "Headlines"

He has had links to various talk radio blogs, including 1 or 2 liberal ones. One lib talk blog refers to
Brian as the "Radio Tranquilizer" while the left-leaning, Seattle-based Blather Watch has his blog under "Right Wing Blogs We Like": "The Radio Equalizer--
prolific former Seattle KVI, KIRO talk host speaks authoritatively about radio"

Exactly. The problem is that Maloney is now reduced to railing against talk show hosts that no one listens to anyway. It's useful to remember where the genuinely ugly vitriol comes from, but it doesn't make for an entertaining read on a daily basis.

From what I've seen on the RE blog over the past few years, Maloney will go after almost any conservative talker who isn't Rush when he's not going after lib talkers or anyone attacking talk radio. In fact, he seems to consider all talkers except Rush to be second-rate at best. I don't think even Hannity is safe. :D

I wonder how much CBS would want to spend if they want 1027wnew.com, should they decide to bring that station back from the dead - I happen to own that domain... ;D

Brian Maloney auditioned on a Saturday evening for the open weekday mid-day slot. I heard the entire 3 hours and was not impressed. He sounded like he was doing a Rush Limbaugh impression and read directly from The Mass Family Institute talking points when discussing the Marriage Equality debate. When he was not hired he put up the SaveWRKO page.

I don't miss the site at all. Most of the comments like Maloney's material were sophomoric

Not to mention Brian is perhaps the wimpiest-sounding and most lightweight-sounding conservojock I've ever heard (yes, I've heard him do radio). Like and angry Mr. Rogers. The talk radio people he often criticizes sound light years better than that chump!
