WRKO Changes Have Begun: BLUTE is OUT

The chain reaction has started...watch (listen) what is about to take place.

Many new shows are planned in late October. Blute's replacement is an intellectual who will beat Scotto at his own game.

WRKO is soon to become "THE TALK STATION" again.

that remains to be proven.

if Mr. Beck's behind it, forget it, kid.

If replacements are new to radio, hired because of Boston name I.D., forget it too.

Can we confirm? Who are they gonna replace him with...another former US
rep.? Torkildsen and Scott in the morning...Joe "They Ran Like Rats" Early...
Nahh...Intellectual?

I've got it: CHRISTOPHER LYDON?>??

note: I just checked out WRKO site and Blute's name is gone from the lineup,
though it still says "Blute and Scotto" on the "Listen Live" Schedule page.
But it simply says "Scott Allen Miller" weekdays 5:30 am to 9 am on the
Program Schedule page.
Not sure if Bluto was on this morning but maybe he was jettisoned just after
the show. (Peter, WTKK could use a pinch hitter on their bench...)

Can't say we didn't see THAT coming!

But if it's true, that's our loss. Peter Blute was a good host WHEN he actually spoke, which was about five words an hour in recent months.

Scotto had his own show Saturday mornings for a few months earlier this year (after Todd Feinburg's slot, 11-2 I think) and he did well on his own.

Again, when the bleep are these stations going to actually ANNOUNCE personnel changes? I've never heard a single one! One day a host (like Blute) is simply gone with no explanation.

Nope it won't be Joe....

...Joe "They Ran
> Like Rats" Early...
> Nahh...Intellectual?
....he's up to late at night watching "Jerraldo" and "Nightlife" w/Koppel

Lately, or perhaps for many years, the trend has been that right after a show concludes, the host is called into the office and told he/she is through.
No last show (remember Jerry?....though he did get a farewell show eventually)
for people to say "We loved you and are sorry you're gone"...OR "I'm angry about this!! I'm never listening to Wxxx again!"

A station is more likely to say "hey, we have the xxx show now" while they soft-pedal somebody leaving. Any announcement, be it press release or something on the website, may say something along the lines of "We decided at this time
not to continue the (host) show. We wish him well in the future and thank
him", etc. Just quick "he's gone, but we do have so-and-so"...and the name
quickly disappears from the site, etc. Such is the business.

True. At least I won't have to listen to any more of those commercials about Purina dog food and his dog, Blackjack. I guess Peter took the equivalent "WRKO 30-day Challenge" (and lost).

Re: WRKO Changes

This may be a longshot, but.....

Although I think that it's most likely that either WTKK-96.9 (if the show airs live during daytime hours) or WBZ-1030 (if the show airs live during the evening or overnight hours) will be the local home of Jay Severin's new nationally-syndicated show, could WRKO-680 surprise everyone and get the Boston rights to it??

Assuming it doesn't air between 12 Noon and 7 P.M., WRKO could probably run it live. A by-product of this might be that Howie Carr's ratings could rise, given that a talk host who gave him serious competition is no longer competing head-to-head in the same timeslot.

And i know I've said it before, but why did Blute consistently pronounce
it "PURR-ee-na" when it's supposed to be "PYOOR-ee-na"?
o well...

why would anyone want Severin?

Blute was funny enough; he sent me a cute e mail about the floozies out on the high seas. But RKO hiring him after his misuse of funds and the poor judgment of the "booze cruise" was absolutely questionable.

So no tears are shed for Blutto. Christopher Lydon would be interesting.
And maybe his replacement from NPR now that he's out of a gig as well.

Re: WRKO Changes

I wouldn't want him, but he did have SOME listeners at 'TKK. I prefer
Carr or Hannity. But yeah, Carr's ratings could rise without the competition
of Severin in that slot--BUT Hannity is the second highest rated talk host in the nation, so instead of getting competition from Extreme Lames he would
have it from the Hannitizer

> why would anyone want Severin?

(to the tune of "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego Theme")

Well, he does his radio show from his basement in Long Island
But he's been missing lately, so we've got Sean Hannity
"Best and brightest" wondering now, are they ever gonna find him
Tell me--
Where in the world is
Jimmy Severino!"

Scotto has a lengthy and rather thoughtful ode to Peter Blute on his blog: http://iamscotto.blogspot.com. Apparently, the Soviet approach to air-brushing the on-air talent out of the picture doesn't apply to blogs.

That was a good piece (except for the shots at his predecessor, 'Ozone'). Kudos to Scotto.

Maybe with the dough that RKO will save on Blute's paycheck, they can purchase a half-decent transmitter with more power than a 9-volt battery. Some people claim they can pick up the WBZ signal in Florida on a calm night, yet I can barely get RKO from 495. The signal disappears completely after about 6pm.
