WRKO: Doug Meehan and Marga Bessette

Doug Meehan formerly of Ch 7 and Ch 25 tried out at WTKK but now apparently is doing a show for WRKO along with newscaster Marga Bessette--poss. a tryout? It was on last night 8-10 pm
and will apparently be on tomorrow night (Wed) as well. They were bouncing from topic to topic and took a few calls. Almost sounded like a "morning show". Even "Cooksey" was there.
 
I tuned into to WRKO for a few minutes last night and thought Savage had checked himself in for 3 days of observation and RKO had to put something on at the last minute. I didn't realize it was Doug Meehan.
 
I was thinking the same thing but Finneran first got on in Feb of 2007, I think, and would think each contract expires around that time of the year. The two didn't really identify themselves too often;
once in awhile Marga called him Doug and I thought "Doug Meehan maybe?" Marga did ID herself with the top of the hour news. When Doug said the phone number I thought, OK this isn't Savage, RKO
is trying something out. They would talk about various subjects like Schwarzenegger and Cooksey
(whose voice I recognized, and they referred to him) would play drops with excerpts from Ahh-nuld's
films ("Stop whining!") From the tone of the show it really didn't sound like Savage's type of talk at all.

Again the WRKO sched has the duo listed for last night and tonight; Savage otherwise. Jerry Doyle
was on at 10.
 
Well, if Doug and Marga are going to be a replacement for that trainwreck in the morning, this may go down as one of the most brilliant decisions to come out of WRKO in many moons.
 
Cooksey needs to ratchet it down a couple of notches. He has been the only funny thing on the morning trainwreck but he needs to mesh better with Doug and Marga. They have the makings of a good trio for the mornings if that is what ends up happening. On the other hand, maybe this is the replacement team to take over when Howie leaves.
 
How can Meehan be on TKK and RKO on the same day (he was on today from 2-6 on TKK)?
Is Savage off RKO?

Noticed that too. He's a free agent (did he tell RKO he'd be on TKK too?), not signed to a station
as of yet, maybe

As for Savage being off RKO, I think the Doug 'n' Marga thing was a tryout--and Savage is
due back tomorrow, according to the WRKO schedule page. Let me check it again:

Yup, Savage is on there for Thu and Fri. Now, if they liked Doug 'n' Marga maybe that could be the new morning show; as for replacing Howie, his contract runs out in Sept. of 2012...

When I was at WRKO, Marga read news during my weekend program. She was great. During a holiday she hosted the morning show with Rod Fritz. They were great together. Frankly, they blew away Blute and Ozone, the regular morning team. I would love to see Marga get a morning gig, but with someone other than Meehan. She is very bright and informed and I wonder if Doug could keep up with her.
