WRKO Making moves

Heard today...

The guy who has been filling in for VB's slot this week (Jessie Kelly) is taking over Bachelor's slot in a few weeks.

He's going to fill that slot until February when they're moving Joe Pags from 7-10 to the 10-1 slot, and then this Jessie dude is taking Pags' 7-10 slot.

Why you'd replace Pags live show w/ Jessie Unknown is baffling to me, but suffice to say, I'll be listening to Pags on his stream instead of listening to WRKO now.

They're both iHeart talk show hosts, neither based in Boston. Kelly is in Houston, Pags is in NYC.

What happened to Grace Curley? I thought she was supposed to be in the VB slot.

I'm listening to Michael Harrison's most recent podcast in which he interviews Grace Curley. She said she begins Jan 4, 2021.

I thought Joe Pags was based in Austin, Texas.

Jessie Kelly is one of the talk show hosts that has a weeknight show on the First TV network a free over the internet network, which also has hosts Dana Loesch, Mike Slater, Buck Sexton, and Bill O'Reilly. It's at How to watch The First TV

Batchelor has been bounced around WRKO for years. I hope they move him over to XKS AM. I enjoy AM Cost to Coast if he has a guest I am interested which is about once a week. If they ran an program on XKS I enjoyed rather than the Podcast samples I would be listening to XKS more often. But I wouldn't wake up to Crazy Kuhner. The sound of his voice gets me out of bed an over to the radio to turn the station.

Iheart screws everything up and their programming is atrocious especially on Talk1200 Sunday mornings....I don't tune in til 9am....from 8-9 they have two guys who sound like teenage girls...their job is to review tv programs, seriously...these are supposed to be grown men and they sound like christine blasey ford with the high pitched voice at the end of sentences...SMH....AND...on weekends it's nothing but filler crap "things you should know", every 12 minutes give or take....things like...everyone in the world should be taking an aspirin every day to prevent inflammation, yeah, but who cares if taking aspirin daily causes internal bleeding SMH .... AND the reason I listen to Talk1200 is because I DO NOT want to listen to kuhner yet talk1200 constantly and I do mean constantly, promos his show...they didn't promo VB and they don't promo Howie but kuhner's promos are everywhere (more filler crap). kuhner is a drama queen of mega proportions.

Pags lives in Texas....

During the week I listen to talk1200 til 3pm and then turn RKO on because Howie comes on and I don't actually 'listen' because he's been phoning it in for years and he has that twit working for him AND I've noticed that he and hannity are now having their producers etc get in on ads, for instance my pillow...hannity has linda his producer rant and rave about how wonderful the pillow is...hannity starts the spot and then linda conveniently interrupts with her rant - howie does the same thing now....he starts a spot and then that twit interrupts with her comments, SMH..I also noticed the ego maniac hannity does this thing where he's speaking with a guest and makes a comment and ends it by saying 'am I wrong?'....of course a guest isn't going to say why yes, yes hannity you're dead wrong...nice way to have your ego stroked. SMH

The First is a great network, I watch it a lot along with Real America’s Voice. It’s not fake news.

What is WRKO doing this week in place of Kuhner? It sounds like they are just running the Gordon Deil program in its stead. Was there an announcement? And no Sandy filling in ???

they've been running America's First news from 5 until 10 when the financial show comes on. I think some iheart fill-in fodder is running from 12-3. I guess they figure nobody is listening anyway, with the holidays.

Since this week is pretty much the same to me as any other week, it has been disappointing trying to find some decent talk programming to listen to. I've been catching up on my Pags podcasts in the morning hours and have opted to use various BBC crime dramas as my background noise in the afternoon. Of course having my 18 mo old home this week (since daycare is closed 'on vacation') means I can't really pay attention to anything anyway since I have to keep an eye on her at all times.

That's the kind of attitude that will kill radio in the long term. Loyalty is earned 24/7/365.
Keep in mind that holiday listening is low, particularly to talk stations. In the middle of the worst weeks of the pandemic, and with station billing off as much as half in many cases, there are some things that just can't get done.

Think of it like the DoT does about a heavy snowfall: the main roads get cleared first, and the rest as soon as they can get around to them. Holiday weekends are not a main road for radio.

I don't disagree that the holiday week is less important but the statement I replied to was, "... it doesn't matter."

It does matter. How much is a valid subject for discussion. When management takes the attitude that, "it doesn't matter," it shows.

Keep in mind that holiday listening is low, particularly to talk stations.

I wonder if that's a chicken or egg thing. Especially during the pandemic, people are home during the holidays and would especially appreciate live talk radio - a great opportunity to build station loyalty.

It sounds like an attempt to generalize something that factually isn't true. People need time off, and that includes talk show hosts.

And some don't want time off. Dan Mandis did two shifts including overnights last week. Chris Plante's producer Michael Piercey fills in every New Years Day and does a great job. There are ways to keep live shows on the air and other ways to cut costs

And some don't want time off.
I'm sure if Kuhner wanted to work on a holiday, no one would stop him. It's a paid holiday, it's in his contract, and he's entitled to the time. If the company forced him to work on a holiday, they've be seen as corporate slave drivers. If they ran tapes of old shows, people would complain. In fact people would complain regardless.
