I have been watching with with amusment the recent destruction of WRKO,
I am listening to Kevin Whelan fill-in for Todd Feinburg for an hour, while I wait for the Celtics.
Whelan sounds so nervous, and he is beating the pro-Bush drum, it sounds like he listened to Rush and then just repeated his show.
Speaking of filling-in for Todd, does anyone actually listen to this guy?
I mean he is so awful.
He has no passion what so ever, he has that fake radio voice that he uses when he wants to fake energy, passion, desire...what a hack.
WRKO is in serious trouble.

A sinking ship, with Todd Feinburg, Scott Allen Miller and metro as it's weight...

what a pitiful excuse for a station.....
 
Waiting to listen to the Celtics is the real pathetic part of this thread.
 
This self destruction must have a purpose. Still think WRKO is for sale.
 
From what I've heard, they're "taking a bath" on the Celtics (not doing well). Quack, quack, quack! as
Cedric would say...Larry Bird's not coming through that door, fans. (Is this the last year of the Celts
on 'RKO contract?)
 
...according to a Boston Bus. Journal article from June '05: "Officials would not comment on the potential length of the deal, saying only that it was a multi-year deal that included incentives that could prolong it."
So the Celts are now in the second year of this "multi-year deal". Wonder if 'RKO will try to end the
contract after this season, given the (from what I've heard) low ratings?
 
Feinberg's got plenty of passion for me. His show is very fast moving. I find myself listening to him and Severin the most lately. Stilll ove Howie too tho.
 
Larry Bird isn't walking throught that door, Kevin McHale isn't walking through that door, and it sux and it stinks.
 
I don't think RKO is for sale. I do, however, think Entercom is going to re-direct the focus of the station.
Soon, it will no longer be presented as Boston's Talk Station. They will broker each hour that's not taken by Howie. His lead-in could become a one hour infomercial for an itch treatment, like Gold Bond Powder.
Mornings will be The Boston Herald News Hour, which will actually be four hours, between 5 and 9 AM.
Middays will still be Rush for now, til he retires or goes away. Then the Banknorth Business show will take its place.
Overnights will be split. Infomercials for Ginsu knives during the week and K-tel Records at night.

I completely agree that Kevin Whelan is not up to the challenge, but I just find him BORING and completely uninspiring (in addition to disagreeing with him on virtually everthing he says). I too was listening last night and there were very few callers, so I think listeners agree. I've listened Sunday night too, and he generally has a lot of guests on the show. Many are interesting though predictably conservative. However, I often find myself desperately wishing that I could listen to the guest without having to suffer through Whelan.

His primary contribution is that his skills are such a stark contrast with those of Feinburg who does interesting stuff on his evening show beyond just political talk, especially the last hour, and isn't your average right wing hack. He certainly has a point of view and is dogmatically anti-liberal, but he treats guests and callers with other points of view respectfully which is probably (hopefully) more welcome on talk radio, given the election. As a liberal, he is one of the few conservatives that I can stand (like?) to listen to. Severin - maybe if I'm in a bad mood and want to get even more pissed off. Scotto? Generally not for more than about five minutes (some things on his blog were quite good, I just can't stand his 'qui es mas macho style' - come on Scotto you're from Indiana and sang in choir - give me a break). DePetro wasn't.

I like the co-host conservative/liberal male/female matchups - hear two contrasting points of view (or not, gee, maybe they actually agree on something), entertaining banter, topics encompassing politics, everyday life, science, economics, local, national and global (beyond security) perspectives.... That would get me to listen. New voices. I hope it stays talk.

Mickey has a point; they brokered time (allegedly) for Two Chicks Dishing and Jeff Katz, and then graduated those "infomercials" to full time employees after they (allegedly) did well in the advertising department --- till the 2 chicks imploded in some inner struggle with one of them allegedly running off with Howie's little intern who allegedly looked like a young Ted Sarandis on a bad day (butchie).

The Celtics will improve, as with all things in life. Remember the Patriots in the 1990 when that Herald Reporter Lisa Olsen walked into the locker room and they disrobed..."What do Lisa Olsen and the Iraqis have in common? They've both seen Patriot Missiles up close..." something like that...(Where was Jimmy Olsen & his camera?)

the team was awful back then, so the players disrobed to make a statement. WRKO needs the celtics to disrobe but, alas, it's radio.

With the Celtics and The Red Sox they are, clearly, gearing up for WEEI-2, and that's not a bad move.
They'll keep Howie, and maybe Son Of S.A.M. and Todd doesn't-sound-so-Fine-burg (Todd ought to be FINED-burg) because the latter two are good lieutenants even though they have no audience, and Howie
because he's the last heritage thing they've got, though he is a damaged collector's item.

Unless Ted Sarandis can sell them on college basketball. Note to Ted, try college football or baseball, college basketball has less of an audience than the Celtics.

Clarification on Leslie and Lori:

They started on Sunday nights at 6pm, maybe the time was bought...who knows...but they did well enough to move to 4 hours Saturday mid-mornings (where I doubt time was bought) and did well enough to move to full-time, 7p-10 weeknights. Their ratings were great, and they won quite a few awards as well.

Paul left Howie's show to become the Chick's full time producer. A riff developed between Leslie and Lori, and after their 2nd to last show (one more was scheduled) Kevin Straley pulled the plug.

Leslie is still on the air in NYC on 92.3 Free FM afternoons. With Paul/Butchie by her side. She has Chuck Nice as a co-host, you may have seen him on Best Week Ever.
 
Certainly an hour on Ginzu knives would be much better than a minute listening to that adenoidal Todd Feinburg. Didn't anyone ever tell him to speak from his diaphram and not his nose.

Also, they could replace Scotto with a paid program with the Grand Wizard. Don't think anyone would even know the difference.

This mess at WRKO is only part of a national radio mess (i.e. Deidre Delgata formerly at Kiss). I could list all of the industry ills in this market, but it would take all day long. BTW, it's great having Casablanca for a co-worker at my part-time job in the Plaza, even if it is just for the holiday season.

'rko is far worse and there was no good reason for it other than julie & jason's screwups..
 
How can the "suits" at Entercon let the "Snow White" and "Dopey" get away with their total incompetence? Is there no Prince or Princess to come to the rescue ?
