WRKO "Playing PD"

Here are potential lineup:

5:30-10 Finneran and Feinburg
10-2 Scott Allen Mller
2-6 Howie Carr
6-7 Red Sox Pregame
7-10 Red Sox
10-1 Michael Savage
1-5 George Noory

Here's the deal: according to Dan Kennedy's blog, the Globe says Finneran's HIGHLY-PAID gig is still secure but the Herald says "don't let the door kick you in the rump on the way out". Hmmm...I can't imagine WRKO would pay him the big bux of the Biotech council, and a busy flack who flies around the country can't adjust his schedule to be in Allston/Brighton every day at the same time. He has to be dumped by his current employer before he can take a pay cut to "work" at WRKO.

Racoon mentioned this article in today's Herald earlier today:
http://news.bostonherald.com/localRegional/view.bg?articleid=175444

“'Todd is being moved into the 9 a.m. to noon slot while I continue to work towards a permanent solution there, which I expect him to be a part of,' said WRKO program director Jason Wolfe....Sources say one option being eyed for WRKO is a talk show with rotating cohosts and guests, similar to sister station WEEI’s 'The Big Show.'”

'The Finneran and Feinburg Show' is fun to say, but as far as co-hosts they are both social conservatives - wouldn't this be too boring to listen to? They are both against gay marriage, and if there is one local story that is going to be in the news in the next 18 - 24 months, it's that. Gotta have someone who supports it against Todd. Scotto is for it, so they could actually go head to head, which they did on the hand-off yesterday at 9 - there were some fireworks which was interesting to listen to. Two conservatives who hate political correctness and are used to name calling going after each other....

I personally think they are considering local liberal female co-hosts - that's why they tried out Margorie Claprood and Mariellen Burns between Christmas and New Year's. Problem is, neither one quite fits the bill. As I've said elsewhere in this board, Margorie is great except for voice quality, which is, IMHO, kind of a devastating problem if you want to be on radio. Too bad cuz otherwise she'd be great with Todd. Mariellen Burns is too middle of the road to pair with another conservative. I bet they rotate folks through until they find someone who stands out and then that person becomes the regular.

And, I have to say that I like this solution for WRKO better than syndicated progressive talk - we need local liberal funny irreverent entertaining talk that is also in-your-face when the next huge local story breaks, like the tunnel collapse. Lovable liberal chick with attitude and fantastic voice so the 'RKO boy listeners swoon. Just gotta find her.

This is prob. why they tried to get Margery Eagan away from 96.9

Speaking of local liberal talk or talk/news, I noticed the WHMP trimulcast in the western part of the
state has local 6-10 am and on weekends, something Boston's Prog Talk never had

Howie 2-6? Idea: local stuff first hour, regionwide 3-6 pm.

I don't listen to Margery Eagan, but it was said in the Herald article that WRKO tried
to get her and Braude to do _separate shows_.

Finn,

What about Ellen from Saturdays? I like her for local flavor and I dont thikn Eagen is as funny. But I like her. I also dont have problem with MaryEllen or Marjorie's voice. They don't bother me.

I'm paying close attention these three weeks because I used to work at another studio in town and I think this is real turning point for Boston radio. Like I said, I'm mostly sad about the news firings. You can really hear the difference.
You sent me helpful post on the Feinburg change, but he's not doing the 10-1 Saturdays. It's still down for Ted&Ellen. So he's doing the 1-4?

I like Ellen with Ted - I haven't heard her alone but would like to. Someone else here said he thought she floundered by herself. No one else commented, so don't know. I do think she's funnier than Eagan; she's also more liberal (which may be why I think she's funnier).

Feinburg is listed on Saturday and Sunday 1-4, but Burns has been filling the slot on Saturdays for the last few weeks and Feinburg was on Sunday 1-4. I was speculating that since Feinburg now had the morning 9-12 slot, that WRKO would want to limit his exposure and officially give that time to someone else. However, the Herald reported this morning that they are still considering various options for M-F 9-12 (that include Feinburg). So, they may continue to use the time to try-out other talent and cycle some of them through the morning slots. It's easy for them to keep it listed as Feinburg's slot since it is nationally syndicated and so he does the show whether he's on 'RKO or not.

I hope it's a turning point in radio, as do a lot of other folks on this board. My vote, as I've said elsewhere, is for a funny, irreverent liberal chick(s) (with a great voice) who can go toe-to-toe with the big boys. Given the change in the country, I would think WRKO (or SOMEONE) would try to tap into the independents (Reagan Democrats) who've been turned off by conservative ranting... I think liberal bashing has been the easiest thing in the world for the past six years because Republicans got a free pass. I don't think this will be as popular and WRKO's ratings will suffer if they continue with the old mind set.

finn, i totally agree on the liberal bashing front. Old news. Doesn't work anymore and TKK is doing smarter conversations.
i don't get to listen a lot on weekends, but I had heard ellen with ted, and really liked her voice and style. I don't think she's been on alone...?
i already voted in other posting for ellen and mariellen (think you had spelling right according to another posetr who seems to know her) mariellen is much better with partner.

i'm with you. i don't know who it will be but RKO can't make it on white guy right wing lineup right now. it won't fly as TKK has two women now on air.
i think BZ's Sullivan is pretty good and even he could use some back and forth with a woman.

>>The Jerry Doyle Show

It was just a case of he was talking something that had to do with Sports (Bobby Knight, I believe, though it had something to do with discipline or something) but it's not a sports talk show. Doyle has been on 'RKO weekly but many stations carry him daily. He is an actor by the way (Babylon 5).

http://imdb.com/name/nm0236381/

Most talk hosts out there do tend to be right-wing but if a left-wing host presents a compelling show that PDs
think can get listeners, then great; even I have suggested that if 'RKO or 'TKK _have_ to do syndies, maybe
a Miller or Schultz will be worth a try.

Note also that Doyle, like Ingraham and Savage, comes from Talk Radio Network which I believe does barter:
take the ads and you can run the show. Which also means it's cheap to run. Many affiliates (and the
"you can run it as long as you run the ads" policy is prob. part of it). Would be interesting to have someone
pick up Tammy Bruce, who is a walking contradiction politically ("an openly gay, pro-choice, gun owning, pro-death penalty, voted-for-President Reagan progressive feminist.")!

yeah, Raccoon, he had Ingraham's producer with him - both trying to lose weight on the air.
Which also made it seem like a Sports show.
