WRKO Replaces Rush

New logo says Rush Radio 1200 WXKS with a "talk balloon" (you know, like in a comic strip)

How original. Doesn't Philadelphia's WPHT (a CBS-run station) do that, also?

Site template (CC cookie cutter) now up. "On Air Now Rush Limbaugh XX-XX"

http://rushradio1200.com/main.html

Would WXKS launch sooner than the April 1st launch date with Rush Limbaugh now in the fold? Although it would be almost 4 weeks sooner than CC planned, I'm sure that they will want a full station line-up to start with Rush. IMHO, they will not simply air Rush ala Coast to Coast while keeping the Spanish format the rest of the day.

If they have not decided yet on a local morning host they could always simulcast the morning show from WTAG-AM in Worcester as was suggested in another thread until the new show is launched.

Indeed. Other stations also have used the "cartoon balloon". WRKO used it yrs ago, maybe early 90s when they had Sox rights, and the slogan in it was "...talks a great game"

The logo looks better than the ones CC use on WRDU/WPTI IMO... but I think maybe "WKOX AM 1200" or "WXKS AM 1200" would've been a better name... or maybe even "News Talk 1200 WXKS", I'm not a fan of the "Rush Radio" brand.

BTW, if you noticed, if you just type "www.rushradio1200.com" it redirects you to the Yahoo! website. Strange...

but adding /main.html gets you the site (test version). They may not want to officially have rushradio1200.com point to the site till the launch, so they're having it refer to yahoo for now

bostonradio tweets:

>>Rumba 1200 is reportedly vanishing at 3pm on Friday(3/5) and cutting over to best of Rush stunting until Noon on Monday(3/8).

Also http://www.bostonradiowatch.com has the Clear Channel press release...one more piece of the puzzle is that Mark Levin will air 9p-mid...and the morning show won't debut till Apr 1. Rush reruns will air in that slot for now.

>>WRKO's early Rush pull-out this week caught the new talker off guard as it's rushing(no pun, intended) to air with its new line-up.

If it were me, I would have stunted with a loop of Rush's theme song by the Pretenders. RIAA be damned! ;D

So how did Clear Channel get Rush away from 'RKO? Wasn't there some sort of contract between Premiere and 'RKO (but with an escape / buyout clause)? Or doesn't it matter?

While I have never dealt with the Limbaugh program, most syndication contracts give the syndicator the ability to yank the program with 90 days notice. (Usually in the case of wanting to place it on a better facility.)

That was exactly how WRNO-F in New Orleans debuted Rush (after stealing him from long-time affiliate WWL-A) - with a weekend-long loop of "My City Was Gone." WRNO was also the first CC N/T station to use the "Rush Radio" branding.

When Clear Channel went to prog talk on 10/4/04, they had a weekend-running loop consisting of stuff like
Neil Young "Rockin' in a Free World" and audiobook excerpts from Franken's book ("Chapter 37. What is a liar?"),
maybe Beatles "Revolution" too

>>On October 1st, 2004, following the local “Bill Wightman Show” on WXKS, at 9:02AM, both stations ended their independent programming and began simulcasting a loop of Al Franken sound bites along with rock music, while including real commercial breaks.

Interestingly enough, that page said that "conservative talk from Premiere" was one of the options considered
long term "when the power increase comes" but they went with prog talk

You'd think they'd bump whatever is on WXKS-HD2 and devote that to a simulcast of AM 1200.

HD-3 is mono, so talk on it makes sense.

As you know from the WBZ (AM) TOH IDs, they say "WBZ-FM-HD3..."

Name of Rush Limbaugh prob will totally disappear from RKO site shortly (still on Complete Schedule page
but not on main page). Countdown timer to first Manning show on Mon.
I will try to record WXKS just around 3 pm today to catch start of stunt
