WRKO site has Virtual Howie

Unbelievable. No Howie on the air at WRKO but you can have him on your computer by going to
http://www.wrko.com and clicking on Virtual Howie. It plays sound clips of Howie talking.

Take it away mumbles
Is this fair?
Whitey Bulger
Ted Kennedy (the Howie "sock puppet" has a puppet of his own, Ted K with two jugs of booze)
I Didn't Come Here To Be Made Sport Of

It's reminiscent of the "soundboards" at the MarkLevinFan site (where Levin says things like
"Get off the phone you big dope" or "Yhello!" in tandem with Ted K's "Hello? Hello"

For a station that may lose Howie soon (but who knows with all this legal crap) it's puzzling. How
long have they been working on this? Again go to WRKO site and it's right up top.

Did I miss something? Is he making the move to 'TKK already? How come he isn't on the air?

He's not on the air because of the split decision a couple weeks back. The judge ruled that the non-compete
clause was not valid in this state but he also ruled that Entercom had a right to match. Entercom feels
they have done so and that Howie is theirs till 9/30/2012.

Howie then benched himself (had the latter decision gone his way he could have been on WTKK as
early as Sept 20). He could hope for an appeal, or maybe the parties involved will work it out somehow
(cash settlement?)
Can Howie prove that "right to match" may also include such demands as being on FM, in a morning
slot, with no sports pre-emptions, etc.?

No show, no paycheck for Howie and yet they still call it the Howie Carr Show. How long can the
charade last--or will legal difficulties force Howie back to Guest St.?

As far as WRKO is concerned it's still the Howie Carr Show but Howie has refused to show up (I think
he cleared out his stuff from the station and allegedly there is an office waiting for him over at the GM
building on Morrissey Blvd. So we have, once again, "Todd Feinburg, filling in for Howie Carr".
Ads and the website still say The Howie Carr Show but he does not intend to go back.

WRKO's pm ratings will probably suffer; for WTKK, a mixed bag. No Howie opposite Severin to take
listeners away. Also no Howie in the morning.

They had actually built a new identity and new website around Howie but that part of the lineup,
for "Boston's Talk Evolution", is on hold...Some kind of webmaster had a "HowieCarr96.9.com" site up
(with a lot of stuff cut and pasted from his WRKO site) but it appears to be down now (perhaps
this was a working site and once people discovered it, lawyers may have recommended it be
taken down--for now). Curiously a WHOIS search listed Howie as the domain owner--but gave
the WRKO Guest St. address...

Stay...tuned...

Almost sounds like D & C a little

Thanks for the explanation.

You're welcome...btw an interesting comment on SaveWRKO.com:
"By insulting Howie with this "Virtual Howie", she (Julie Kahn) also insults his audience, her CUSTOMERS."

You're right, Raccoon -- that is a soundboard. For the time being, that's as close as they will get!

It kills me the way the haters at SaveWRKO.com love to personalize everything.

"She" ???

Neither Julie nor any other Market Manager devises or approves the web content. Of course they can put a stop to something if they choose, but the machinations some people ascribe to WRKO management are laughable. (Julie has a massive ego, Julie dictates WRKO programming, Julie is sitting in her dungeon figuring out ways to defy the first amendment and keep Howie off the air, Julie is pushing her left wing agenda on the station that hired a socially conservative democrat for AM Drive, has Savage in the evening and would like nothing better than to return Howie to PM Drive, Julie this, Jason that...) It is as if they believe that Howie's public persona has anything to do with what goes on in real life or business. Sure the line blurs when Howie dictates the party line to his secretary in the Herald (sort of like a newspaper) and she prints it, but the people who think they know anything about the real goings on here are the same ones who can't figure out why the referees make so many mistakes in Pro Wrestling. I know its a waste of time reading all the nonsense over there, but it is like the Jerry Springer Show was in its heyday - so outlandish that it is compelling.

I checked out the WRKO Virtual Howie site - I can see why Howie would get annoyed under the current circumstances, but it was fun to play with. That site is starving for compelling content, so why not do it? There is no other current WRKO host that could carry that off, so why not use Howie? If anything, it is a compliment to Howie's popularity, not an insult to his listeners. Who else would play with it BUT his listeners?

That's all the Howie content Entercom has now that he's benched himself. And if the decision goes his
way, hey, thanks for helping to promote WTKK's newest talk host!

A sample--mix by me, so to speak
http://howiecarr.freehostia.com/VirtualHowie.mp3

We're not haters; we love Howie and what WRKO USED to be. Geez, Gene Burns would turn over in
his grave if he were dead. ;) (Credit: Tom Leykis, who once said that talk radio listeners only half-listen. "If I said that, I'd get a call right away--'is Gene Burns dead?'")

How do you know Coffee Boy or the Empress were not involved in this?
I would disagree that Julie is putting left wing content on there. Believe me, if she were, it'd be Mike
Malloy, Randi Rhodes, Thom Hartmann, Jimmy Tingle, Steph Miller, et al.

And yes Jessica is Howie's secretary, for better or worse! :) Rumors can also be spread to the Track
Gals or Howie's future co-worker (he hopes) Margery E. (or McPhee)

>>That site is starving for compelling content

So is AM 680!

But then again, when was the last time Julie Kahn made a rational decision?

Just imagining, if the decision were to go against Howie:

(spoofing the Suzyn Waldman Yankee-gasm:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=9frdnvnfSTM

JULIE KAHN: "Howie Carr is in Jason Wolfe's office, and Howie Carr is comin' back! Oh my good,
goodness gracious, of all the dramatic things, of all the dramatic things I've evah seen--Howie Carr
is in Jason's office and he's comin' back. Well, we won't to worry about lousy ratings now!" )

And if it goes Howie's way:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=8m6CRBsWb3U
JULIE KAHN: And then Jason said something, and we all looked at each other, he said that this
WRKO staff has some promising young talent and he said--this is rough, this is rough, he's your friend...
(starts to cry)..he said "this has been the best 12 years of my life. I wouldn't have missed this
for anybody." Now I was OK until I went into the break room and the producers were sitting in the
break room watching all this, and the tears that you hear in my voice..." :)

VERY funny post, Rac.

I work pretty closely with a number of folks at Entercom in Boston and other places and I have a pretty good business relationship with Julie. I just don't see her acting or thinking in the manner that is ascribed to her by so many of the people who don't like the direction of WRKO. I'm sure they have to be disappointed with Finneran so far, but Scotto, good guy that he was, was a proven failure. Finneran may get to that point as well, but until it is unsellable, it was the right move. (Maybe not as right as getting a better host, but sometimes you don't know until you give something different a try.)
