WRKO's Scott Allen Miller Announcing Changes Come Next Monday

Hard to tell from Scott Allen Miller's promo whether the changes he is talking about are just on his show or are changes to the whole schedule.
Did anyone else hear that promo?

I heard it too, and it was vague enough that I'm not sure whether he was referring to morning-drivetime alone, or the rest of the day. He said all will be revealed Monday, October 10th...a HOLIDAY when there may be fewer (if that's possible) listeners to his show; it seems he's doing long monologues between calls in the earlier part of his show.

The Announcement

Was this the one?

"In seven days, boston radio changes forever. Tune in from 5:30 - 9."

(or something close to that)

A reliable source has said the new format will be more news oriented.
Look for newscasters like Rod Fritz to play a bigger part in the morning drive.
More interviews, less calls. It will be a team approach led be Scott Allen Miller. This was a format WRKO used back when they first went talk in '81 with the late, great Norm Nathan and Jordan Rich. Not sure if Miller has 'a body of well tempered steel, has straight teeth and is a swell dancer.' Miller may have a thing for Michelle Pfeiffer, but don't we all.

this "new format" is 20 years out of date.

1981's where it belongs, leave it there.

Yes, when it was played in the evening it said "in seven days Boston radio
will be changed forever", and after midnight it said "in six days", etc.;
"tune in Monday from 5:30 to 9 am". Could be a revamp of morning show or
perhaps wholesale changes to the 'RKO lineup.
______________

Yea, right. Stop living in the past, parklane. Maybe you should
call Jerry Williams to see if he wants to come back. You can
produce him again.

Re: The Envelope Please

The new wrko morning show idea is not so unique. Its what talk stations do all around the country.

Similar to the morning show out at KFI in LA w/ Bill Handel and crew. Or, similar to John Batchelor on WKRO (at 10, after Savage), although he's ALL interviews and NO calls.

I would like to see more revealing interviews but you can't cut out the callers.

I would like to add that now that Blute is gone, maybe it will be better political interviews during election time. Blute was too busy allowing the politician use his show as a platform rather than an interview or Q&A session.

Re: The Envelope Please

I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't do more with Fox 25 and VB Doug Goudie since they have a lively morning program. Who knows, Scott Allen Miller might recolate to Fox 25 street studio on Beacon Street across from the State House and team up with VB.

No, it's what NEWS stations do. WRKO trying to be WBZ will fail.

A dinosaur format not worth copying.

Oops--I know you "transposed" WRKO's call letters there but let's do a trivia
question, everyone: Which presidential candidate taped a legal ID for that
station and mixed up the call letters as "WKRO" (Howie has played the tape)

(Jeopardy theme music)

Who is...Lamar (Lamar!) Alexander?
______________

interviews, news, occasional calls... isn't that what Imus does? Although I haven't listened to him in 2-3 years...

Yes, when he's not on vacation or mumbling about the ranch. He also interviews his brother while they take cheap shots at each other. Sometimes it's quite entertaining, other times it's not.

Re: The Envelope Please

Many large-market all-talk stations actually run a four-hour news block from 5 to 9 A.M. on weekday mornings.

Almost always, it's done only in markets that do not have an all-news station, or a station like WBZ-1030 (which is all-news fifteen hours a day).

If Boston didn't have a 15-hour (or 24-hour for that matter) all-news station, WRKO-680 would probably already be doing a four-hour morning news block.

Abort this bad move quick!

Look, this plan is fatally flawed, WRKO won't take a single morning listener away from WBZ. But it will chase away WRKO's core audience. This will be ugly, don't know why Entercom wants to kill the talk stations. What does it have against hiring experienced, successful talk programmers?

Re: The Envelope Please

WRKO will go lease time with Scott Alan Miller rip and reading the liners in Spanish.
Just my two centavos
