WRKZ 99.7 Rock Town Hall Meeting

I guess the cat's out of the bag that Hal Fish IS "Mark The Shark"...it was obvious once I heard him begin talking.
This whole thing should be interesting...I remember CD101 doing it once, and about 10 years ago Randy James did something like this on WGTZ Z-93 in Dayton.

Oh this will be very interesting. I have a pretty good idea of what I want to say. All I can say is that I'm looking forward to tomorrow.

alans613---hate to burst your bubble...but Hal is definitely not "Mark the Shark"...first of all being "Mark" seems to avoid facebook and twitter as much as possible...

Well, I don't like The Rock, but I think this is awesome that they're doing this. Hopefully it's nothing but callers and the jocks voicing their opinion. No music. I plan to voice about how much Columbus needs another CHR.

Not true. Mark is a real person. I spent the beginning part of the decade employed by Hal, and making Mark's newscasts as tough as possible for him on the Eagle :)

Were there any substantive changes at either station as a result? I'm guessing guess the answer is "no," especially for CD101.

You can tell NABCO doesn't spend much on their stations in that youtube video.. with exception of what looked like the Audio Vault computer that board and the room feel appeared to be quite dated.

I honestly doubt this will lead to any big changes to 99.7 FM.

He did mention the stations past...and that they where country at one point :)

Are they brothers or something? Man, these two sound alike.

For CD101, no. For Z-93, no as well. I still have the Randy James thing on tape somewhere in a box. I remember them talking to listeners about the station, but no changes were really made afterwards.
I also thought that board on the YouTube video looked outdated. If it ain't broken don't fix it I guess.

Must be goodbye for Bob & Tom.

Yesterday, they spent a bit of time promoting that Mo is in town this weekend...Coincidence?

Blazor & Mo return?

And an April Fools Day announcement is planned for "something."

That's good, old-fashioned radio teasing right there.

I taped the "Town Hall Meeting" via VHS hook up on Thursday. Good thing because I was unable to listen that afternoon. From what I gathered:
-Almost every caller wants to see "The Blitz" name return to 99.7(They're out of luck with the WBZX calls...one station in a tricast of stations in NY have the WBZX calls registered to them).
-9 out of 10 people HATE Bob and Tom with a passion, and think they're wrong for 99.7(Which they are)...even a caller in his 50s said he couldn't stand them.
What came out of the Meeting:
-Too much Metallica and Nirvana(Almost every caller complained about them)
-Need more local music
-Bring back Choose It or Lose It
-Do some sort of request show(An 11 year old suggested this)
What will happen(My best guesses):
-Bob and Tom move back to 103.9 where they belong, or out of the NABCO stable entirely.
-Blazor and Mo return to Mornings...If not them, someone live and local.
-A REAL LONGSHOT...The Blitz name returns. I don't look for it to happen, but i'll throw it out there.
-Local music gets a showcase on 99.7 again(They even said this right after the first call I believe).
-99.7 takes a harder edge musically(More Mudvayne, less Guns N Roses).
We'll see what happens Thursday at 3 PM. They emphasized whatever happens happens for good and is in no way a joke. Falling on April Fool's Day they said was just a coincidence(I think Hal even openly groaned on the air when Blazor and Ronni told him that next Thursday was April Fool's Day).

Whatever it is (and obviously in the Rock realm), I'm sure everyone will be quite underwhelmed, including listeners and people posting here.

Their problem is they are asking current listeners what they want changed, when they should be going after people that quit listening to the station when the format changed. The listeners they have already listen to them (duh). None of my friends or I even have that station in our radio presets any more. What do they need to do to get my friends and me back? It may be too late. How can people in my situation even be heard? Since I do not listen how would I have even known there was going to be a town hall meeting? I found out a few days after, by checking this site.
If they are going to do another change, it sounds to me like they already decided on the changes before the call in program. How long does it take to revamp a readio station? I'd guess more than a week. So if they are going to do this on 4/1/10, I'd guess they already knew the changes well in advance of their call in show.

One other thing, if you are going to have a local morning show, let them talk, do not play music for 99% of the talk show, that is why it is a talk show. Greg O hated this and it ruined Mo and Blazor's show.

I listened to most of the town hall meeting. It does not sound like they are going to come on Thursday with a big change. It sounds as if they are going to discuss what they have discovered from all the feedback and maybe make some sort of announcement about what their plans are. The whole thing is different than anything I ever heard a station do before. Maybe that is good, maybe not.

One thing I got from the town hall meeting was that I finally got an explanation of what happened to Grego. They went into great detail about their falling out with him. I still miss the show, but at least now I understand why Grego is gone. I would be happy to have Mo and Blazor back. And I agree, leave the music out of it. I would like to hear more of a Blitz type station with newer hard rock, but I can hear the music all day. So if they are going with a local show in the morning that is funny and compelling, play music after the show is over. What is the point of having a guy on as funny as Mo and playing a bunch of music? If they are going to play music in the morning, then just throw another DJ in there and just play music.

Wonder is Bob and Tom now airing on 102.3 WFXN-FM out of Galion is any
indication B&T are going to leave the Columbus market.. Seems odd to have the same
program on markets so close.

Can say Ill miss them, but Howard is a waste of air play also.

No, Galion has nothing to do with it. In fact, the market separation is so great that WHOK was even using 102.3 in Columbus. And WCVZ is at 102.5, which now wipes out 102.3 in the Columbus area, except maybe in the FAR north parts of the metro -- where there's not much population.

Speaking of WFXN 102.3, I wish Columbus would get a station like that. I listen every day just outside of Marysville at work, and love them. Very few commercials and a lot of good music. WLVQ 96.3 has far too many commercials and are turning into 105.7. Columbus needs a good Classic Rock station. 102.3 and 104.7 out of Dayton are much alike, I just can't get 104.7 as well.

I do agree though with 99.7 changing. Go back to the Blitz style, and let 96.3 and 105.7 duke it out. Play a totally different style than those 2. If they would go to a format like 107.5 WZRX out of Lima or like 98.9 WBYR out of Fort Wayne, they would be a big hit here. They're the only 2 stations on the planet that I've heard Powerman 5000 on.
