WRMF House Cleaning

See, I told you so! The Savior of South Florida radio, Russ Morley leaves and the place is falling apart. I hear bankruptcy is next. They should have never let that wonderful, star quality, human being escape their grasp. He was such a wonderful influence there. So easy to work with, so easy to get along with, so much of a positive person, much like the lights of a service station when your gas guage is pointing on "E" in the middle of the night. Unless they bring him back and bring him back very soon, I'm terribly afraid the fallout will affect each and every station in the market. I propose they honor him by renaming "Sheridan" with "Morley Road". Imagine seeing his name on the exit sign instead of that old, decrepid Mike Sheridan.

Hey!...He's just as old and decrepid as I am! :'(

DXDXDXDXDX is right in someways, although, Mike Sheridan is not so old and decrepid, perhaps alittle, and and so true about Russ Morley, he was WRMF, and DXDXDX has paid him a nice compliment, which brings to mind my old close friend "Dandy Don Wright" Don has been gone 14 years now on June 1st, he too was WRMF and I sure miss Don very very much.

WRMF was at one time a radio station of radio stations and had some of the best on-air talent in town, although times have changed, and rest assured you can bet with all the change's, Wealthy Richard M. Fairbanks and my bud Don Wright would be rolling over in their grave's!

I'm sure it wasn't DXDXDX's idea to pay Russ Morley a compliment. Although Russ did a good job on the air he could be very difficult to deal with unless you were on his favored list. That's just the way it was.

Don Wright was a great guy and always fun to be around. While I was there WRMF played some great adult contemporary music, songs that many soft A/C's won't play anymore. Now I can't relate to much of the music they play so maybe I am a little on the decrepit side. WRMF had double digit ratings back then.

Palm Beach was never good enough for them though. They always wanted to be a Miami station. No matter what they did it was just not going to happen.

I moved to South Florida three days before 1990 started, and I was amazed at WRMF. I didn’t care for their morning show, but the rest of the day was just perfect. One of their liners said it best: “WRMF, with more variety than a record store.” As a 27-year-old male, I wasn’t quite in their target, but as a radio professional (at what turned out to be the end of my career), I appreciated Don Wright and a radio station that could go head-to-head with the best of what New York City had to offer. I never met Russ Morley, but he ran a hell’ova radio station.

I think the blueprint was from Farbanks national PD George Johns. After all WIBC Indy and KVIL Dallas were Fairbanks stations and they were not too shabby!

Don Wright had been a talent and PD at Miami's legendary WFUN 790. The station lived up to it's name.

As for Russ Morley, there are a million stories. I'll just leave it at that!

Trivia question: While Don Wright was on WRMF he had a favorite song he'd air every Friday afternoon at 5PM, and one of my favorites too, can YOU name that song?

Re: WRMF House Cleaning (Russ Morley)

I was Production Director at WJNO and on occasion subbed to help out the FM production - Russ was certainly a tyrant to some, but was gracious to me - even sent an official note praising my help.
