WRNO FM --STATION GIMMICK - LED ZEPPELIN

Anybody remember the time that WRNO-FM 99.5 played "Rock and Roll"
by Led Zeppelin 2 straight days-- with people calling in with threats?
It was obviously a PROMO or GIMMICK-- Exactly when did this event happen?

Yeahhhhh.... probably about a day after da time someone hipped Mikey to do fac' dat da song wasn't really done by dat bogus Led Zep'lun bunch -- but was actually an after-houahs all-stah jam by da Beach Boys, da Dave Clahk Fahv, and da Monkees deah.

If I'm not mistaken, it was in the Galloway days (the great folks that threw Ronnie Gogreve out on the street when he had cancer) when they flipped from that great River move back to rock...

I couldn't tell you exactly when it was but it should have been between 1989 and 1992. I was in high school then and remember everyone talking about it. I remember it starting some time on a Friday and continuing throughout the weekend till sometime Monday. Every once in a while the music would end, followed by silence for about ten seconds. Then the voice guy would come on and announce,"Just when you thought it was over..." Followed by "Rock & Roll" again. I don't remember what the stunt resulted in though.

It was '92 or '93. The lead guitarist I played in a retro-punk band with at the time and also lived with in Harahan asked me one day what my favorite Led Zep song was. I immediately answered, "Either 'Communication Breakdown' or 'Rock N Roll'. Then he turned the radio on.

1993. Think it is when they flipped to all 70s as 99.5 the River. Or it was the flip from ZRock back to Classic Rock..

Or the flip from The River back to Classic Rock..Geeez there were a lot of flips on that frequency after the 80s.. I remember the year because it was the day I bought a Quiet Riot/ Randy Rhoades cd and a guitar magazine with Randy Rhoads..both copyrighed 1993..Magazine says Dec 93. ( I still have it :)
