WRNO Worldwide is reportedly back on the air

It was reported on WRNO Worldwide's web site that they are back on the air on 7505. They also have an app for the cell phone also. Their web site was hacked and they are working in a new web site.

They say that everything is fixed but when Glenn Hauser monitored the station Saturday Night he could not find the station on the air. This is why I said reportedly. I also gave a listen and could not find the station either.

They are working on a new web site that is currently under construction. And reportedly have increased there program schedule.

Is it still broadcasting from New Orleans or thereabouts?
Unless something has changed, transmitter is still across the river from New Orleans, studios in...Dallas?

I remember some magazine articles a while back, saying that WRNO had been bought by a religious outfit, and was being rebuilt.
Their antenna system,IIRC, was badly damaged by a hurricane a few years ago, and needed extensive repairs...seems like there were problems with the transmitter site as well, with sprawl and something to do with a lack of sufficient electrical power.

I can't address the question of insufficient electrical power, but I have been to (and inside) the transmitter. Post-Katrina it was a mess, but the antenna has been repaired; when I visited a couple of years ago with a friend who wrote a cover story about the station for Monitoring Times, the station was running. Originally it was "out in the boonies", but the suburbs have grown around the site, which by the way, is spitting distance from WWL's 50 KW 870 kHz transmitter. That site is not in any danger of suburban sprawl as it is in the swamps outside the levee system.

Folks:

This station had been off the air for many months. A long time ago I emailed the contract engineer asking what was up with no reply. I do not know why the station was off the air.

Originally the antenna was only slightly damaged due to a hurricane (not sure if it was Katrina or Rita), and the repairs were relatively minor.

Yes, a housing subdivision grew up in the back yard since Costello owned it. All programming from Texas via an ISDN line. Got a QSL from them when they went on the air.

I know my shortwave setup is less than ideal, but I have heard zip from them on the three times I've checked the frequency. I'm in Foley, AL, which is about 150 air miles from New Orleans, so I would think I'd have some shot, maybe at groundwave, even.

My little bit of SW DXing has 7505 not on the air. But, they are on on the Internet at www.wrnoradio.com . I accidently tuned into the stream on the internet and if you listen at the times they have programming, you will here the actual signal.

7505 from about 8-11 PM is their schedule right now. They do need to work on getting on frequency since they are off 1khz to 1.5khz in the high side.

On September 2 2012, after Hurricane Isaac came through, WRNO Worldwide went off the air having feed line problems. They returned to the Airways on September 22, 2012 and is now broadcasting on 7505 as usual during the evening hours from 8-11 PM 7 days a week. Welcome back
