Kinston's 960 has simulcast WRNS-FM for as long as I can remember, silly considering the FM has a huge signal. That ended April 21st as the station is now "990 The Bull" with CBS Sports Radio.

WFTC, 960AM ran independent programming from their sister FM, WRNS, until the Beasley Broadcast Group bought the station in late '84 from Bill Alexander's "Alexander Communications". Beasley applied for a call sign change for the AM from WFTC to WRNS AM. I can't recall exactly when it happened, but it wasn't long after Beasley took over that 960 AM started simulcasting the FM. It also wasn't long after Beasley acquired WRNS, that he moved the transmitter from the studios on Falling Creek Road in Kinston, broadcasting 100kw ERP on a 300 ft tower, to WCTI-TV's 2,000 ft tower in Trenton. The antenna is ERP 100kw with the antenna around 1,567 foot mark on the tower. When WRNS made that move, they almost tripled their coverage overnight!
