WROC AM anecdote

Apparently while WROC was airing progressive talk and local news from WROC channel 8 a "popular local radio host" who was unemployed at the time apparently went to talk to the Entercom GM to air a morning program on WROC AM. However the Entercom GM, even though they were friends with this person, laughed in their face and said no WROC doesn't need a local morning host and never will. Shortly before the decision to flip to sports, apparently in a last ditch effort to save the format the PD called back that person. However, that person laughed in the PD's face stating they had just been hired at another station.

I wonder who it was and I wonder if this story is true.

I have no idea if the story is true; but if it is then my guess would be the person mentioned could have been Alan Harris.

Harris did work for WROC-AM years ago as their morning host before being let go as the station switch to Air America.

yhats fine with me. i love havin 2 full time sports channels in crapchester. hell they have 24 hour sports in other towns smaller than ours, and until 950 came along we could not find that here.

Ah thanks for clearing that up. I heard this tale from another board discussing progressive talk a while back.

Although there might be some truth to it--it sounded familiar to me and so I did a search of old topics and found this post. Not sure if that story is true either.

The story is Bull sh*t. We would never laugh at anyone.

Why do you people persist with this silly stuff.

Mike!!! You have to return to Albany and resurrect SHO-FM!!! The best Oldies station that I have ever heard anywhere and one of the best stations that ever existed in the Albany market!!!!

Two replies:

1. Why is it always "a friend told me" that WROC laughed at them. Never happened.

2. Who is "channel surf" who remembers sho-fm in Albany. must be steve chick or bill garcia.
