WROQ off the air

WROQ went off the air late this morning. Their tower was struck by lightning. It is located between Fountain Inn and Ware Shoals off of Hwy 418.

I believe WMYA 40 is on this tower as well. What is their current status?

When did WROQ-FM Rock 101 and TV 40 move their antennas down to that area of between Ware Sholes and Fountain Inn? For YEARS, both had antenna near Anderson College and then near the Anderson Fairgrounds. Both 101.1 and TV-40 were started by Wilton Hall in Anderson many years ago.

Someone with closer knowledge of the stations can fill in all of the blanks but I believe the move was done in the early 80's when the stations were acquired by Frank Outlaw and TV-40 became WAXA. Outlaw built the new transmitting facility to increase the coverage of the TV station and moved the 101.1 transmitter there as well.
